Wednesday racing tips for Caulfield
Victoria’s summer racing season continues to heat up this Wednesday afternoon with an eight-race card at Caulfield. The track is a Good 4 at the time of writing after some warm weather around Melbourne, and an upgrade to a Good 3 is inevitable. The rail is out a whopping 14m for the meeting, so it may pay to follow the on-pace gallopers. The first at Caulfield is set to jump at 3:40pm AEDT.
Race 1 – Ord (#7)We will be hoping the combination of the Dabernig & Hayes stable and Jye McNeil can begin our day on the right note. Ord looks like he will be up on speed and seems well placed to break through for his maiden victory at start number four. Everyone knows just how good of a jockey McNeil is when on leaders, and the speed map suggests he should be able to dictate terms for the maiden event over 1440m. If he gets a quiet time of it up in front, there doesn’t look to be much that can run down this promising three-year-old gelding.

Race 8 – Witchfulthinking (#2)Witchfulthinking is a genuine frontrunner and is looking to make it a hat-trick of wins here. Last time out she was an all-the-way winner over the 1300m at Sandown, where she kicked clear at the 300m mark and left her rivals off the bit. Prior to that she bolted in at Terang, scoring by an official margin of eight lengths over the 1400m. She gets back to that trip for this assignment, with apprentice jockey Will Pice retaining the ride. Look for the four-year-old mare to get to the rails and prove incredibly hard to catch.

Race 2 – Angerstein (#1)Despite travelling three wide with no cover at his last start at Kyneton a fortnight ago, Angerstein looks set to run a cheeky race at nice each-way odds in the second event at Caulfield. From barrier one, and being a genuine frontrunner, he looks more than capable of breaking his maiden on a day where it may be advantageous to be up on speed. The market rivals are also quick beginners, but expect this guy to use barrier one to the best of his advantage.
