HorseBetting’s Victorian horse racing analyst brings you his best bets and quaddie numbers for the Caulfield meeting on Saturday afternoon. The track is rated a Soft 5, the rail is out 12m for the entire course, and the first of nice races is set to jump at 11:50am AEST.
Caulfield Best Bet: Malkovich
Bjorn Baker sends his three-year-old colt Malkovich to Caulfield in a bid to continue the strong form he has put together in Sydney. He was an impressive last-start winner over the Randwick 1000m when leading all the way and holding out the smart Chris Waller runner Hulk. From barrier nine under Damian Lane, we expect the son of Choisir to head to the front and either hunt for the rail or sit one off outside the leader. Malkovich only goes up 0.5kg off that last-start win, and with two wins to his name on rain-affected ground already in his career, he looks to be the clear best bet on the Caulfield card.

Next Best at Caulfield: I’m Thunderstruck
The Mick Price-trained I’m Thunderstruck comes to Caulfield on the back of a dominant win at Sale on June 9 on Heavy ground. Co-trainer Michael Kent Jnr said during the week that the stable is expecting big things from this three-year-old Shocking gelding second-up from a spell. Kent revealed that he relished the wet ground at Sale, and with rain expected throughout the lead-up to race day at Caulfield, he could get similar conditions on Saturday. Mark Zahra sticks onboard, and the 4kg drop in the weights will only help as I’m Thunderstruck looks to make it three wins from four starts to begin his career.

Caulfield Value Bet: Pinyin
In the opening leg of the quaddie, the Jim Conlan-trained Pinyin looks perfectly placed to bring up a well-deserved win. The five-year-old mare looked to be a good thing beaten (again) last start when chasing home Plaquette, who she meets here again on Saturday. Thomas Stockdale’s 2kg claim means she meets her rival better at the weights, and all she needs is a bit of luck as her sharp turn of foot will have her fighting out the finish. Pinyin should appreciate the cut out of the ground as well, with all four of her career wins coming on rain-affected tracks.
