A nine-race card is scheduled for Caulfield on Saturday afternoon for Sir John Monash Stakes Day, and HorseBetting.com.au’s Victorian racing expert presents his best bets, value tips and free quaddie numbers. The meeting is scheduled to get underway at 11:50am AEST, with the track rated a Soft 6 and the rail returning to the true position.
Sir John Monash Stakes Top Tip: Malkovich
The Group 3 Sir John Monash Stakes is the featured event on the Caulfield card, and we are happy to be with three-year-old colt Malkovich from the Bjorn Baker yard. The son of Choisir won impressively despite sitting three deep at his first run in Melbourne over the 1000m, and stepping up to 1100m here under weight-for-age conditions looks ideal for him. If the track stays in the Soft range, his chances certainly increase with three wins from five starts on rain-affected going. Under the capable hands of Jamie Kah, we expect him to go forward, hunt for the rails and prove hard to run down as he continues his rise through the grades.

Caulfield Best Bet: Deep Field
Tony McEvoy and Jamie Kah are set to team up early on when the resuming Deep Speed returns from a six-month spell. The three-year-old Deep Field gelding managed to string together two wins at his first two starts at Moonee Valley in his initial campaign before a couple of minor placings at Listed level. With plenty of early toe on his side, we anticipate Kah will look to dictate terms and have Deep Speed kick clear in the straight to notch a first-up win.
Race 2 – Deep Field (#4)[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1374040_02]
Next Best at Caulfield: Chief Altony
In the second leg of the quaddie, Chief Altony returns to Saturday company following a smart win at Sandown on June 30. Despite being a good thing beaten at Flemington two runs back, the four-year-old son of Rebel Raider clearly has a bright future. He is yet to finish outside of the top two in five starts on rain-affected ground, and with even luck in the first 200m he should be hard to hold out. Thomas Stockdale’s 2kg claim gets them in with just 54.5kg, while a genuine tempo should see Chief Altony savaging the line late down the centre of the track.
Race 7 – Chief Altony (#9)[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1374040_07]
Caulfield Value Bet: Continuance
Lindsey Smith brings his three-year-old filly Continuance to Caulfield and will be hoping to right the wrongs of her disappointing effort over this track and distance on May 29. Following a six-week freshen up, the daughter of Delago Deluxe could run a cheeky race at a nice price. She won easily when first-up at Warrnambool on May 5, and having finished outside of the top three on just one occasion from seven starts on wet ground, she may take some holding out.
Race 4 – Continuance (#5)[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1374040_04]
