Caulfield races betting preview
Caulfield Guineas Day is arguably the second-best day on the racing calendar in Victoria outside of Derby Day, and this year it comes up with a monster 10-race card. There are four Group 1s to get stuck into, with the Caulfield Stakes, Thousand Guineas, Caulfield Guineas and Toorak Handicap all set to be run and won on Saturday. The quality of horses throughout must be seen to be believed, and there looks to be plenty of value for punters to capitalise on.
The dynamic combination of William Pike with Grant and Alana Williams looks well placed to get the fifth win of this gelding’s campaign. He was massive in defeating Buffalo River last time out, and this looks even easier than that race a fortnight ago. With two genuine speed demons up front in Runson and Archedemus, he’ll get a genuine tempo. Windstorm looks the quality in this field and should move onto bigger and better things this spring, perhaps at Moonee Valley in a fortnight or during the Flemington carnival.

The 4YO mare handed Dean Binaisse his first Group win last start in the How Now Stakes at Caulfield three weeks ago with a thoroughly impressive on-pace performance. From barrier 11, she may struggle to take up the running with How Womantic and Xilong both explosive starters; however, if she can jump nicely and take a sit just off the speed, she will be fighting out the finish.

The John Price-trained gelding is a genuine Caulfield specialist after winning three times from six attempts around the track. He runs in a Group 2 for the first time, but he looks like he should handle the step up with no dramas. With Alfa Oro now scratched, the race maps for Jungle Edge and Splintex to take up the running. Both prefer the sting out of the ground, but we’ll be racing in near-perfect conditions come Saturday afternoon.
