Caulfield Racecourse is set to host a nine-race card on Saturday afternoon. The track is rated a Soft 5 with the rail out 12m for the entire circuit, which should prove advantageous to on-pace runners. HorseBetting.com.au brings you the race-by-race preview, top odds, best bets and free quaddie numbers for the meeting kicking off at 11:55am AEST.

Race 1 – Super Vobis 2YO Handicap (1200m)

The juveniles kick off the meeting at Caulfield on Saturday, with a couple of impressive types set to duke it out. Despite last start winner Generation coming up a $2.30 favourite, we have settled on the Dabernig & Hayes-trained Spinning in the opener. The Pierro filly was just held out by the smart Gimmie Par on debut over the 1100m here on April 24, and she should appreciate the extra 100m she gets on Saturday. She is drawn to do no work having drawn barrier one, and if she produces the turn of foot she showed on debut, then Spinning should be too strong late on for this field.

Race 2 – BM84 Handicap (2000m)

Our best bet on the Caulfield card comes up early in the meeting with the Richard Laming-trained Excelman. He finished half a length off Blue Ocean after producing a barnstorming finish to just miss on April 24, and having dropped 5kg of that last run, he looks hard to go by. The Reliable Man gelding will look to settle towards the rear of the field, and on the back of a well timed steer from Jamie Kah the pair should be too strong over the concluding stages under the minimum weight.

Race 3 – Mares BM84 Handicap (1600m)

A field of 10 mares are set to battle it out over 1600m, and we have settled with one at a nice price, with Lunar Flare on top around the $10 quote. The Grahame Begg-trained mare out of Fiorente was last seen competing in the Group 3 Queen Elizabeth Stakes behind True Self. During the spring, Lunar Flare was chasing home the in-form West Wind in consecutive starts. His last win came on the synthetic at Pakenham which could be cause for concern, but in an open market, and first up from a spell she looks to be the one with the most upside. With two wins from five starts on soft ground, she will handle the going and be in this up to her neck throughout.

Selections: 4-5-6-2

Race 4 – BM78 Handicap (1200m)

Our best value bet comes up in the fourth at Caulfield on Saturday, with the Ellerton & Zahra-trained Mrs Beckham. The mare out of Toronado is yet to taste defeat at Caulfield from two starts. She resumes at the 1200m and should be close to the speed throughout having drawn barrier nine. During the spring she was not beaten far by the handy Whipcracker Way in a race that produced seven subsequent winners. If Damien Thornton can settle the mare with cover early on, she looks to be over the odds.

Race 5 – JRA Handicap (1600m)

All To Huiying has been out of form a touch this campaign, but strikes a winnable race if he brings his best to this event. The $1.90 favourite Holbein has not won in close to 12 months, and consistently runs into one of two better on the day. Two runs back, All Too Huiying was three with no cover up on speed over this track and was beaten just over a length. In the small field of seven and drawn barrier six, expect Michael Poy to take the son of All Too Hard to outside Holbein, and as Holbein has shown in the past he tends to lose his way approaching the winning post.

Selections: 1-3-4-7

Race 6 – Handicap (1100m)

In the opening leg of the quaddie, Streetcar Stanger looks to be one of the better bets on the programme following a smart win at Morphettville on April 24. He was held up at seemingly a crucial point and looked to have been a good thing licked, but once he saw clean air, the son of Stratum was simply too good. Expect Jamie Kah to take him to the rear of the field and with a small field of eight, they should not be too far from the speed throughout. He clearly has the sharpest turn of foot in the field and with a genuine tempo expected throughout he should be too good for this field.

Selections: 8-1-6-2

Race 7 – Super Vobis 3YO Handicap (2000m)

The second leg of the Caulfield quaddie looks to be one of the more open events on the nine race card. We have settled on the Mick Price-trained Redwood Shadow who has returned in strong form despite not claiming a victory in his two starts back. He does his best work when settling towards the second half of the field and should be savaging the line here. Dean Yendall hops back on board and has finished no worse than third when on the back of the son Redwood. He finished fourth in the Group 3 Caulfield Classic at his only start at the track, when beaten by just under half a length.

Selections 2-1-4-12

Race 8 – Super Vobis 3YO Handicap (1600m)

The penultimate race on the program sees a strong field of 14 three-year-olds set to battle it out over 1600m. The John Sadler-trained Mozzie Monster has chased home the smart Annavisto at his last two starts and now gets his chance at Caulfield on Saturday. Having competed in harder races than what she meets on Saturday, this looks to be D-Day for the Sebring filly. From barrier 14, she will need to head back to the rear of the field, but she has shown the ability to sustain a long run from the back. She is yet to taste success at Caulfield from four starts, but this looks the race for her to break her run of outs.

Selections: 2-1-3-4

Race 9 – Super Vobis 3YO Handicap (1200m)

The final race on the card sees the return of rising star Ayrton who does around as an odds-on pop in the final leg of the quaddie. The Mick Price-trained son of Iffraaj has the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap as his grand final later in the preparation in Queensland, but this looks the ideal warm-up to his biggest test yet. He is a star on the way up and with Jamie Kah sticking in Victoria for the ride insteading of heading back home to Adelaide for their big card, shows how highly she rates Ayrton.

Selections: 3-5-9-8
