Caulfield free racing tips, odds and form, Saturday September 23

Caulfield tips

MAJOR racing takes a break for a week in Melbourne, but there’s still some great betting fields for punters to dip into this Saturday at Caulfield.

The nine-race card includes sizeable fields where there are some talented runners such as Fuhryk, Big Duke, Brave Smash and He or She lining up. That’s some great thoroughbred talent and it should be a good day for value punters.

We have free tips, form and updated odds for the Caulfield card on September 23 and punters can get off to a good start with Topbetta’s $50 for $150 sign up bonus bet deal.

Race 1 – VOBIS Gold Plate (1400m)

Sanadaat was no match for Shoals in the Atlantic Jewel Stakes, but it should find this more to its liking. The Lindsay Park-trained filly was heavily backed into $3 on that occasion which means there was good stable support and that will likely come again for this run. It just needs luck from a tricky barrier.

Aliosa is a former Kiwi runner which finished second behind the talented Belle du Nord before coming to Australia. Now with Ciaron Maher, the three-year-old scored at Flemington before getting unlucky at Doomben in the J.J. Atkins where it was held up late. Its run for second on that occasion was huge and despite looking for more ground, it needs to be seriously looked at her.

Race 1 tip: Aliosa to win ($5) at CrownBet.com.au

Race 2 – Foundation Handicap (1600m)

Three-year-old colt Sunquest should have won a race by now and it gets a good chance here. The Steve Richards-trained son of Helmut ran on well last start at Moonee Valley and its performance in the McKenzie Stakes was a good form guide. Nice chance at $4.40 after opening at $4.20.

Estiraak has won four from its nine starts and it went close last start in the same race as Sunquest. The Lindsay Park-trained colt was good enough to run in the Champagne Stakes last season and its run in the Up & Coming Stakes was solid. It looks tough to beat and punters have climbed into the $3.30 on offer.

Race 2 tip: Sunquest to win ($4.40) at Ladbrokes.com.au

Race 3 – BM78 Handicap (1800m)

Anaheim resumed last start with a great run at Moonee Valley. The quality son of Fastnet Rock made good late ground over an unsuitable distance and you only have to look at its age-group record for its quality. It ran fourth in the Rosehill Guineas behind Gingernuts and it wasn’t far away in the SA Derby. This distance suits nicely and the $7.50 is value.

Fellow former Kiwi Sin to Win has attracted the most attention in the betting. The son of Sir Percy has yet to finish outside of the money in seven starts and it didn’t have everything go its way last start. Most of its form has come in lower levels and it doesn’t get into this race well on the weights, but respect the money coming for it at $3.60.

Race 3 tip: Anaheim to place ($2.60) at Sportsbet.com.au

Race 4 – Foundation Plate (1100m)

I Did It Again is looking to do it again after winning well on debut. The Greg Eurell-trained three-year-old was steady in the market at $4.60 and it had to fight along the inside of runners to win. That takes some quality and after opening at $3.40 punters have backed it into $2.80.

Bandipur finished second behind I Did It Again three starts back, but it has since performed well at a high level. It won the Lightning Stakes at Morphettville before running second in the McKenzie Stakes last start. It has the fitness edge, but it will need luck from out wide.

Race 4 tip: I Did It Again to win ($2.80) at CrownBet.com.au

Race 5 – Ladbrokes Handicap (1400m)

So Si Bon has only won one from 15 starts, but it’s always had the potential to win more. The Robbie Laing-trained has been tried over the staying distances, but sprinting looks more its go after placing behind Voodoo Lad in The Heath earlier this month. It didn’t fire last start, but nothing went its way and it could make amends at odds of $5 here.

Revolving Door is another under-performing type which has stolen punters money since winning fresh up. It ran third in the Chandler MacLeod last start at big odds, but its performances prior included close finishes at short odds. This could be D-day for the four-year-old and it gets every chance with 54kg on its back.

Race 5 tip: So Si Bon to win ($5) at Ladbrokes.com.au

Race 6 – Testa Rossa Stakes (1200m)

Brave Smash is the star thoroughbred in this race and it’s currently odds-on but drifting. The Japanese import scored a tough win at Moonee Valley last start after sitting three-wide in the open throughout the race. That’s not easy to do around that track and it still found plenty of effort on the line. Its prior run behind Vega Magic was top quality and despite drifting from $1.65 to $1.75, it’s a great winning hope.

Royal Tudor finished off gamely behind Voodoo Lad last start and its win in June over Sir Bacchus in the Octagonal Stakes was top class. It ran only 1.5 lengths behind Redzel in the Hall Mark Stakes in April and that form has been significantly franked since. It’s an underrated type and there’s value with the $18.

Race 6 tip: Brave Smash to win ($1.75) at Topbetta.com.au

Race 7 – Foundation Cup (2000m)

Stampede was far too good for them last start when winning from the front at Moonee Valley. The Waterhouse/Bott-trained free-running type has defeated some handy horses over its last three wins and it’s capable of taking out a field of this magnitude. It has drifted in the betting from $4.20 to $4.80, but keep it safe.

Abbey Marie produced a huge performance when running second behind multiple Oaks winner Bonneval in the Dato Tan Chin Nam. The Michael Kent-trained five-year-old hasn’t won for awhile, but it’s always had class and this is a drop in grade having taken on the likes of Hartnell and Foxplay in recent starts. $6 is value and that price should drop.

Race 7 tip: Abbey Marie to win ($6) at CrownBet.com.au

Race 8 – Ladbrokes Stakes (1200m)

Four-year-old Fuhryk didn’t have everything go its way in the Cockram Stakes, but it could make amends here at a better price. The Lindsay Park-trained runner ran seventh as the $1.80 chance, but punters can get $5 here. It’s drawn to get a nice run behind the leaders and it could strike late.

Ravi showed its true potential last start when winning the Sheraco Stakes at Rosehill. The Snowden-trained mare had been costly for punters on the big stage, but settling closer to the pace has seemingly worked wonders so expect similar tactics here. Dwayne Dunn should get it into a nice spot and it has had support at $5 after opening at $6.

Race 8 tip: Ravi to win ($5) at Ladbrokes.com.au

Race 9 – BM90 Plate (1400m)

Jamaican Rain has been one of the best-backed runners of the day. The Richard Laming-trained five-year-old has firmed in from $4 to $3 following two straight wins this preparation. The Manhattan Rain mare won by 3.75 lengths at Sale before scoring by almost seven lengths last start at Morphettville. This is harder, but the support must be respected.

Petition has plenty of talent and it looks ready to win again. The talented four-year-old put two wins together in April and despite being beaten at short odds twice this time in, it has performed well. Rising to this distance is ideal and it carries a light weight, but getting off the inside will be the test.

Race 9 tip: Petition to win ($5.50) at Sportsbet.com.au
