Feature Race Race 8 – Listed Anniversary Vase

Caulfield hosts a nine race card on Saturday afternoon on a track rated a Good 4, with the rail out 8m the entire circuit. Horsebetting.com.au brings you the race-by-race preview of the meeting, with all the best bets, top odds and free quaddie numbers. Racing is set to get underway at 12:15pm AEST.

Race 1 – Wilde Racing Handicap (1100m)

The opening event at Caulfield is for the 2YO fillies, and it looks to be a race that we can narrow to two key chances. The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained Billiondollarbaby debuted in fine fashion at Canterbury when leading throughout over the 1200m. She steps back to the 1100m which looks to be no different for her, and despite drawing the widest barrier she should have no issue finding the front. With the Peter Moody-trained Gimme Par resuming from a spell, we are happy to be with Billiondollarbaby who has a touch of race fitness on her side over her key rival.
Selections: 2-3-1-4

Race 2 – Ern Jensen Funerals Handicap (1600m)

Next Best Bet

One of our best bets on the Caulfield cards comes in the second race on the card, with the Simon Wilde-trained Pride Of Jenni looking well placed. The Pride Of Dubai filly is yet to run outside of the top three in her six career starts, and should be continuing that trend on Saturday. Expect Jye McNeil to take the filly to the front from barrier nine, and despite needing to lug 59kg on her back, she should be too strong for this field of three-year-old fillies throughout.

Next Best Of The DayRace 2 – Pride Of Jenni (#1) $3.70 with Sportsbet

Race 3 – Next Payments Handicap (1800m)

Best Value Bet Of The Day

In a wide open affair in Race 3, we are willing to side with Ryan Balfour-trained Dreamed, who was a narrow winner at Morphettville on April 10. The slight concern is that the Dream Ahead mare is yet to win at 1800m from four goes, but gets her chance on Saturday afternoon. Brett Prebble will look to settle her in the second half of the field and on the back of a long sustained run she should be savaging the line and proving to hard for her rivals to hold out.

Best Value BetRace 3 – Dreamed (#14) $11.00 with Sportsbet

Race 4 – I U Simon Builders Handicap (1100m)

Best Bet Bet Of The Day

Our best bet on the Caulfield card comes up in the fourth race with the Maher & Eustace-trained Marabi looking to extend her winning streak to four. In her first three career starts, the I Am Invincible mare has won by a combined 15.5 lengths and on the back of a five week freshen up looks hard to go past on Saturday. We were with her at Moonee Valley at her last start on March 19, when she put the small field of four away with ease in a soft win. She comes up against a rather large field of fillies & mares who struggle to win, and she should be too quick for this lot.

Best Bet Of The DayRace 4 – Marabi (#6) $2.05 with Sportsbet

Race 5 – The Di Beretta Handicap (1200m)

The way All Of Brighton returned three weeks ago over the 1100m here when running second suggested that he is worth following this campaign. The Patrick Payne-trained gelding is yet to finish outside of the top two in four starts and looks hard to go past in the fifth at Caulfield. She finished a nose off the classy Minhaaj in that first up effort and with Madison Lloyd retaining the ride they look hard to hold out. With Lloyd’s 3kg claim, the Needs Further gelding will go around with just 52kg on his back and will be hitting the line hard.
Selections: 6-1-8-7

Race 6 – Stow Storage Australia Handicap (1200m)

Alfa Oro’s return did not go completely to plan when third over the 1000m behind Sword Of Mercy here on April 3. The Matt Laure-trained son of Bachelor Duke gets out to his pet distance of 1200m where he has only tasted defeat once from four attempts. With the natural leader in the race likely to be Sartorial Splendor, we expect Lachie Neindorf to settle Alfa Oro just outside the leader, and with Neindorf’s 2kg claim the pair will be hard to run down in the opening leg of the quaddie.
Selections: 1-8-7-12

Race 7 – Manhari Metals Handicap (2000m)

Every man and his dog was on Mahamedeis in the opener at Caulfield last weekend, and on the quick seven day back up, we are happy to side with the Nick Ryan-trained gelding. Prior to his win last weekend he had ran to within 1.5 lengths of Persan and Hang Man in the Group 3 Easter Cup and that form looks to be the one to follow here. With a genuine tempo expected over the 2000m, look for Rhys McLeod to get his mount moving from the 600m mark and be swamping the leaders from back in the field.
Selections 4-1-2-12

Race 8 – Listed Anniversary Vase (1400m)

The featured event of the day, the Listed Anniversary Vase is as open an affair as we have seen in the whole meeting. The way Missile Manta finished over the top of her rivals in the small field on April 10 suggests she will take some holding out on Saturday. We expect the mare out of Smart Missile to settle towards the rear of the field, and on the back of a genuine tempo throughout the 1400m she should be savaging the line late. Still A Star & Riddle Me That are clear dangers in a race where all but one or two runners have genuine claims in taking this out.
Selections: 5-6-7-4

Race 9 – Dexion Victoria Handicap (1600m)

We will be looking to head home a winner when Legend Of Zorro steps out in the final race on Saturday afternoon. The son of Toronado has strung together a hat trick of wins and was utterly dominant last time out at Sandown when smashing his rivals by over three lengths. From barrier 12, expect Mark Zahra to take the Andrew Noblet-trained gelding to the front, and in a race that lacks early speed he should be too quick for his rivals and bring up his fourth win at the mile from five attempts.

Selections: 11-7-13-9
