Where Casterton Racecourse – 119 Racecourse Rd, Casterton VIC 3311
When Sunday, July 24, 2022
First Race 12:38pm AEST

Casterton Racecourse is the destination for a seven-race card on Sunday afternoon in country Victoria and with a bit of luck Horsebetting.com.au can steer you into a few winners. The first three events of the day are over the jumps, whilst the four quaddies legs are set to be competed under highweight conditions.

The first of seven is set to go at 12:38pm AEST on a Heavy 8, with the rail in the true.

Best Bet at Casterton – Heir To The Throne

We do not need to wait too long for our best bet of the day, as the Andrea Leek-trained Heir To The Throne looks to break his maiden over the hurdles. The seven-year-old went down by the barest of margins at Pakenham over the obstacles on July 17, but we expect he can go one better seven days later. He was ridden cold at Pakenham last weekend and managed to steadily pick off his rivals inside the final 800m and was a nose off pulling off an impressive victory. Prior to that he was putting in impressive performances on the flat at metropolitan, so as long as he handles the jumping side of things, his credentials on the flat will have him right in this. He has three wins and two minor placings from nine starts on the heavy and if he is anywhere near his best, Heir To The Throne should prove too good for this lot.

Best Bet

Race 1 – Silk #5 Heir To The Throne (7)

7yo Gelding | T: Andrea Leek | J: Steven Pateman (69.5kg)

$1.90 with Bet365

Next Best at Casterton – Elvison

The Symon Wilde-trained Elvison is a deadset track and distance specialist at the Casterton 3800m. He has three wins from five starts at the track and trip, including a dominant all the way victory last time out on June 26. The eight-year-old gelding managed to win by 25 lengths at the track and trip three runs back, before he ran in to the smart Britannicus in The Australian Chase two starts back. Elvision is a genuine jumping marvel and despite needing to lug 74.5kg, we anticipate he will prove simply too hard to run down.

Next Best

Race 3 – Silk #1 Elvison (6)

8yo Gelding | T: Symon Wilde | J: Aaron Karu (74.5kg)

$1.80 with Unibet

Next Best Again at Casterton – Alassak

In the second leg of the quaddie, the Kelvin Bourke-trained Alassak has been the model of consistency recently, having placed four times in his last six starts. The eight-year-old gelding was overhauled late on at Murtoa on July 17 and on the quick seven-day backup and this deep into a campaign, should see him peaking for a race like this. From barrier two, Aaron Kuru looks set to gain an uncontested lead throughout aboard the Shaft gelding and with a couple of cheap sectionals. Alassak looks to be a perfect bank builder for your online betting sites account.

Next Best Again

Race 5 – Silk #2 Alassak (2)

8yo Gelding | T: Kelvin Bourke | J: Aaron Karu (67.5kg)

$2.70 with Ladbrokes
