The Labour Day public holiday in NSW brings an eight-race card at Canterbury to the fore, with perfect spring conditions forecasted. The rail is out 6m for the entire circuit, and if recent history is anything to go by, then being up on speed will be no disadvantage. The first of eight races is scheduled to jump at 1:25pm AEDT, with the last race set to go at 5:30pm.

Kris Lees would have liked what he saw in this gelding’s juvenile campaign when he scored convincingly in different ways in both of his wins. On debut he settled towards the back of the field but was far too strong late, and then at Scone he took up the lead and never gave anything else a chance. If he can run up to that form here, then nothing will be able to hold him out in this small field where tactics will be key.

This 3YO filly will have her first start for the in-form Hawkes team after gaining entry as second emergency. In both career starts she has been able to get up on pace with ease, and her trial a fortnight ago suggests the new stable will use the same plan. In that trial at Warwick Farm she led narrowly throughout and held on to score under a hold, and she rates highly with Kerrin McEvoy on board.

This 4YO mare for the Anthony Cummings and Regan Bayliss combination will need to make up just over four lengths to take down Aspect Ratio after running a distant third to her last time out at Wyong. She maps to take up the running from barrier six and gets in well at the weights, so she may provide enough of a kick to hold out the John Sargent galloper late.
