Canterbury racing tips

NSW metropolitan racing heads to Canterbury Park on Wednesday with six races set to go around. The rail is in the true position for the entire course, with the track currently rated a Heavy 9. Racing fans will be eagerly anticipating the debut of champion mare Winx’s half sister, Covent Garden, in the opener at 1:25pm AEST.

Wednesday racing tips for Canterbury Park

Best Bet
Race 4 – Milunka @ $2.05 Sportsbet

Chris Waller and Hugh Bowman combine with race favourite Milunka in the fourth event on the program. The daughter of All Too Hard is coming off a dominant win at course and distance a fortnight ago on a heavy track. On that occasion, she was first up off a spell of nearly 12 months, so she should improve lengths second up. From barrier eight, Bowman will work his way across to race handy to the speed. James McDonald jumps off the mare to ride stablemate and last-start winner Mubariz, which is worth noting as the gelding sits on the second line of betting. We don’t believe anything is lost with Bowman on, however, and we think the mare will be too strong second up on her preferred wet surface.

Next Best
Race 3 – Monasterio @ $4.20 Sportsbet

Monasterio does his best racing at this track and trip and finds a suitable race here on the seven-day backup. Last start, Joe Pride’s 6yo sat up outside the lead before fading late to finish four lengths back in eighth place over the 1500m. The Savabeel gelding drops a kilo with Kerrin McEvoy in the saddle, which is a promising appointment given they saluted in their only previous pairing. He’ll have more options for barrier three tomorrow and can settle midfield with cover, which should suit better over the staying trip. The gelding is a three-time winner on a wet track and should have suitable conditions here. Look for him finishing over the top of them late.

Best Value
Race 6 – Lillemor @ $4.40 Sportsbet

Not a great deal of value here at around the $4.40 mark, but we are sticking with last-start winner Lillemor to salute again. The 3yo filly gets very similar conditions to her previous run, where she just hung on over the 1250m in an all-the-way win under Louise Day. Ms Day stays on the filly again and will use her 3kg claim to get her in on just 55.5kg again. The 50m less here can only be a positive for the Hallowed Crown filly in what is a race with very little speed. She should jump and run from gate four and be too good again, peaking at her fourth run for this campaign.
