What Canterbury Races
Where Canterbury Park Racecourse – King St, Canterbury NSW 2193
When Wednesday, June 21, 2023
First Race 12:50pm AEST

NSW metropolitan racing heads to Canterbury Park on Wednesday afternoon for a competitive seven-part program kicking off at 12:50pm. The rail is in the true position the entire circuit, and with some scattered showers predicted in the lead-up, we’ll be cautious of a possible downgrade prior to the first race.

Best Bet: Tropical Squall

The opening race is a maiden for the two-year-old fillies, and we’re very excited to see Tropical Squall make her debut. The Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott prospect impressed on her latest jump-out at Randwick on June 2, leading all the way to score by a length on her stablemate Sicilian. Adam Hyeronimus takes the ride on Wednesday, and you’d imagine he’ll give this daughter of Prized Icon a positive steer from barrier one, leading them up as she’s done in her trackwork.

Best Bet

Race 1 – #3 Tropical Squall (1)

2yo Filly | T: Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott | J: Adam Hyeronimus (58kg)

$1.65 with Bet365

Next Best: Princess Rayaa

Princess Rayaa would’ve made her way into most blackbooks after resuming at this course and trip on June 7. It was a luckless return for this three-year-old by Kingman, as she was forced back to the rear of the field from a wide draw and never saw daylight when trying to swoop up the inside rail. She was racing under her own steam with 100m to go, and now, with a much more economical run from barrier two, we expect a much-improved showing as she hunts her maiden victory.

Next Best

Race 3 – #8 Princess Rayaa (2)

3yo Filly | T: Ciaron Maher & David Eustace | J: Tim Clark (55kg)

$1.95 with Neds

Next Best Again: Lucky Variety

Lucky Variety is set to make her return after a 150-day spell and finished her last preparation in outstanding fashion, winning at Randwick on January 21 to make it three wins from four starts before heading to the paddock. She’s trialled up nicely heading into this first-up assignment and doesn’t seem to have missed a beat, as she showed her customary speed when clear at her jump-outs. This isn’t an easy task by any means; however, she’s got quality written all over her and, with even running throughout, can bolt down the middle of the track to make it career win number four.

Next Best Again

Race 6 – #3 Lucky Variety (5)

3yo Filly | T: Kris Lees | J: Tim Clark (59kg)

$5 with Bet365
