quaddie of the week

CANTERBURY is the destination for this week’s quaddie where some talented midweek thoroughbreds are in action over the last four races.

The final leg will be of great interest to racing fans and punters alike. It is crammed with potential top-line thoroughbreds which we will likely see racing on Saturday this spring.

The likes of Daysee Doom, Rillito and A Day To Remember are all in action on the final leg which promises to end the midweek quaddie in exciting fashion.

Leg 1 – Tab.com.au R72 Handicap (1250m)

Kandinsky looks a good chance to get quaddie punters off to the right start. The Hawkes-trained gelding won its only start at Warwick Farm and after opening at $4, it has steadily dropped to $3.80. The four-year-old gets the inside barrier which is ideal and it should be tough to beat again.

Rock Of Mahal has also firmed in the market. The Bjorn Baker-trained gelding is currently paying $3.20 after opening at $3.50 and a solid run is expected. The son of Fastnet Rock won well at Warwick Farm two starts back and its trial form leading into this race has been strong. McDonald is a key booking so monitor any further betting moves.

Leg 1 quaddie tips: 3, 5

Leg 2 – Theraces 3YO Rating 72 Handicap (1900m)

Shanakee has been knocking on the door its last two starts and the rise in distance looks ideal. Trained by Bjorn Baker, the four-year-old won well fresh up at Scone before running back-to-back seconds at Kembla Grange. It drops in weight for this and looks a good betting prospect at $5.

Balboa Park rises in grade after a dominating display at Hawkesbury last start. The Waterhouse/Bott-trained gelding scored by three lengths and it could have turned the corner this preparation. It handles all track conditions and given its current price of $4.20, a nice run is expected.

Maryore should be considered on its win-rate alone. The five-year-old has won four from 13 starts, which includes two placings, and it won its only start at Canterbury. That came two starts back when it defeated the highly-touted Kent which should be great form for this. An obvious quaddie inclusion.

Leg 2 quaddie tips: 1, 2, 8

Leg 3 – Ranvet’s Salkavite R67 Handicap (1100m)

Super Maxi is an underrated gelding from the Hawkes stable which won back-to-back races to kick off this campaign. The three-year-old defeated two quality types before running second behind Upscale last start at Warwick Farm. Getting up in the weights, but it only needs luck from the wide draw to feature in this.

Roguish is a more than capable gelding which won its only start in a fresh state. The four-year-old kicked off its career with back-to-back wins with a combined winning margin of 7.6 lengths and although it didn’t win in three starts since, it has taken on the likes of Bullrush and Sir Bacchus. 3kg claim helps here.

Quantrill has the ability to boost quaddie payouts at odds of $10. The Matthew Smith-trained gelding wasn’t far behind Aegean Sea last start and it ran Super Maxi to within a half-length two starts back. It has form behind Super Too and Untamed Diamond which looks solid for this. Worth including at double-figure odds.

Leg 3 tips: 4, 5, 6

Leg 4 – Tab Rewards Rating 72 Handicap (1100m)

Rillito is an improving mare which broke maidens with a five-length win at Newcastle before beating a handy field at Moonee Valley last start. The John O’Shea-trained four-year-old looks a natural improver over more distance so this might not suit perfectly, but respect the $3.10 available and it looks a strong winning hope.

Daysee Doom had every chance to win last start, but it will be fitter for the run. The Ron Quinton-trained mare won its first three career starts which included a narrow win over the Chris Waller-trained Pioneering at Rosehill. It is getting up in the weights, but the 2kg claim helps and the $5 suggests a nice run will come.

A Day To Remember might be paying $15, but that’s great value for an unbeaten runner. The Jason Coyle-trained mare has won all three starts in Queensland, but the wins have come in good quality races and it shouldn’t be discounted. Could be the blowout chance in the final race.

Leg 4 quaddie tips: 2, 4, 6
