Canterbury racing preview – February 26,2021

Best Bet: Forbes

We are hoping we get a backable price for this two-year-old who lines up in his second start, but we have slight concerns that he may be closer to Winx odds by the time he jumps. The Snowden-trained Forbes was run down late on debut by Anamoe, who has since placed in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes. The margin was only a tenth of a length, and that pair put a further 2.75 lengths on the third horse, so they were both naturally worth following. Forbes won a trial by nearly 10 lengths just last week to have him wound up for this. Jason Collett will do the steering from the outside alley and will likely have him leading or in the lead division. He should be too good and can put in a late bid towards a Golden Slipper.

Best BetRace 1 – Forbes (#1) $1.75 with Sportsbet

Next Best: Mightybeel

Chris Waller will be hoping Mightybeel can make it back-to-back wins in the third after putting his rivals to the sword last time out. The son of Savabeel is likely on an ATC Derby path if he can get to that in time, so the 1900m should not be an issue for him in this. His debut behind Count De Rupee was very good in coming from last to run fourth, and then he put in a similar display at start number two at Newcastle before being ridden further forward over the 1550m last time out, which saw him go on to win by 4.3 lengths. We are hoping he is put in a prominent spot again over the 1900m journey and wins well.

Next BestRace 3 – Mightybeel (#1) $2.70 with Sportsbet

Next Best Again: Jenga

The Hawkes clan saddle up Jenga, who has her second race start on Friday after blowing her rivals away on debut at Warwick Farm. The All Too Hard filly jumped straight on the bunny from barrier six and should do similar in this from the eighth alley under Tommy Berry again. She does go from maiden company to a Benchmark 64 and rises 5kg, but she has plenty of upside and should lead them all the way again.

Next Best AgainRace 2 – Jenga (#4) $2.90 with Sportsbet
