What Canterbury Races
Where Canterbury Park Racecourse – King St, Canterbury NSW 2193
When Wednesday, June 9, 2021
First Race 12:55pm AEST

A seven-race metropolitan program has been assembled for Canterbury Park on Wednesday, and our New South Wales tipster is keen to play in a couple of races. The track is rated a Soft 6 and the rail is out 3m, so we expect the leaders to be advantaged. For all of our best bets and quaddie numbers, read our full preview below. The first of seven will jump at 12:55pm AEST.

Canterbury Best Bet: Stoical

Peter & Paul Snowden saddle up Stoical in the second leg of the quaddie on Wednesday in what looks a very winnable race. The son of No Nay Never was very impressive at Hawkesbury last time out, careering away to win by two lengths under Tommy Berry. The three-year-old gelding had trialled well in preparation for his first-up run, defeating Olmedo and Lillemor, who both won their most recent starts. Drawn barrier five, expect Stoical to be right there in the run and to take some serious beating.

Best BetRace 5 – Stoical (#6) $3.20 with Sportsbet

Next Best at Canterbury: Acrophobic

John O’Shea and James McDonald have got a pretty good record together in recent months, so we are confident that the leading Sydney hoop can be the key to Acrophobic on Wednesday. The three-year-old son of Dissident was a touch unlucky last start when second to the in-form Betty Blooms, and he was scratched from a race on Saturday in preference for this. The gelding has been contesting Listed and Group 3 races in recent starts, so this 1550m Benchmark 72 should be the class drop needed. He will have to lug 60kg, but he is a deserved top weight and should make his own luck on the speed from barrier three. It’s been a while between drinks, but this can see Acrophobic back in the winner’s circle.

Next BestRace 6 – Acrophobic (#1) $2.70 with Sportsbet

Canterbury Value Bet: Gin ‘N’ Bitters

Billy Healy’s mare Gin ‘N’ Bitters makes her way down to Sydney from Queensland for a first-up attack in a Benchmark 72 for the mares. The lightly raced five-year-old has won four of her nine starts and was only four lengths off them in a Listed race 12 months ago. The daughter of Sebring has drawn wide in the field of eight, but she will go forward, especially with Tim Clark aboard. A recent trial victory should have her forward enough for this, and she typically runs well when fresh. While this mare does have to carry 61kg, it is only 4kg above the minimum. Queensland can get an early victory over New South Wales on Wednesday before State of Origin Game 1 kicks off later in the night.

Best ValueRace 4 – Gin ‘N’ Bitters (#2) $6.50 with Sportsbet
