Canterbury Betting Preview – February 12, 2021

Eight races will be run and won under lights at Canterbury Park on Friday night. The track is currently rated a Soft 5, the rail has been moved out +3m for the entire course, and the first race is set to jump at 6:15pm local time.

Best Bet: Marway

Marway proved his class in his New South Wales debut last start on Australia Day when he railed hard to win a 1000m Benchmark 72. Not only was it his first win since leaving Rockhampton, it was also the five-year-old’s first time winning first up. For a gelding who improves out of sight with a run under his belt, it makes him very hard to go against here. The son of Hemingway is a three-time winner when second up into a campaign and has placed in all four starts over the 1100m trip, so he should be very competitive. He does have to lug 60.5kg and jump from barrier 14, but he has plenty of early speed to work across and essentially burn the candle at both ends. He is a good each-way bet.

Best BestRace 8 – Marway (#2) $5.50 with Sportsbet

Next Best: Miss Redoble

In what is a wide-open race, Tracey Bartley’s mare Miss Redoble looks a winning chance at the each-way quote. After winning at this track and trip last time out albeit on a Heavy 8, the six-year-old has been allocated 61kg but has that offset by Louise Day’s 2kg claim. She would have been a certainty beaten if she didn’t get the job done a fortnight ago, but she got the split at the furlong and burst through to win by the slightest of margins. That run would unlikely have taken too much out of her, so we are confident that she can go on with the job now.

Next BestRace 3 – Miss Redoble (#1) $6 with Sportsbet

Best Value: Toscanini

Three-year-old colt Toscanini has to take on the older horses in this 1900m affair, but he looks well placed in Benchmark 72 grade. The son of Fastnet Rock comes into this off a strong second to the talented The Elanora at Eagle Farm in the Group 3 Grand Prix where he peeled ground off the winner late. He steps back 300m but has had six weeks between runs and has had a quiet trial in the last fortnight to keep him ticking over. He should get a decent run from barrier eight as they do a full circuit of the course, and he should be charging home late.

Best ValueRace 4 – Toscanini (#6) $7 with Sportsbet
