Bunbury Cup Day 2021 betting preview

It’s Bunbury Cup Day this Saturday, and we have been gifted three Listed races on a bumper 10-part card in Western Australia. The track is a Soft 7, the rail is in the true position for the entire course, and the first race is set to jump 12:12pm AWST. HorseBetting.com.au brings you the best bet of the day and the top selections for the three feature races.

Best Bet Of The Day

Gemma’s Son won his first four races in impressive fashion in his two-year-old season before going down at start five in a Group 2. The well-named Snippetson x Princess Gemma colt has since won another two races, including the 3YO Magic Millions at Pinjarra Park on February 6. He then finished 1.6 lengths off the winner at Listed level last time out, so he should appreciate the big drop in grade on Saturday. Kristy Bennett’s 3kg claim offsets the 60kg, and Gemma’s Son should get a good run in transit from barrier seven.

Best Bet of the DayRace 4 – Gemma’s Son (#1) $3.30 with Sportsbet

Bunbury Cup tips

No prizes for finding the odds-on pop in the feature, but Montelena looks extremely hard to beat. By Rubick, the four-year-old mare has won five of her 14 race starts, including a run of four straight races between 1600m and 2200m during the spring. She resumed with a fourth at Pinjarra over 1600m before sharply improving when only just beaten in the Listed Detanator Stakes at Ascot a fortnight ago over 1800m. She steps out again to 2000m, where she has won before, and draws to do no work from gate two under Chris Parnham, who has ridden her at her last seven starts. She gets in light and should be too good for them.

Best Bet – Bunbury CupRace 9 – Montelena (#7) $1.70 with Sportsbet

Breeders Classic tips

Todd Harvey saddles up his unbeaten three-year-old Triple Missile in the Breeders Classic over 1400m. Having won his first three starts in good fashion, the son of Smart Missile will now face his toughest test to date. The debut win at Bunbury will prove to be a good omen, and the fact that he has won on a Soft track at Ascot only betters his credentials. He should get a great run three pairs back and finish off too well for this lot.

Best Bet – Breeders ClassicRace 6 – Triple Missile (#3) $2.80 with Sportsbet

Bunbury Stakes tips

Samizdat has won six of his 15 starts, including a very narrow win two back in the Listed Scenic Blast at Ascot. The Not A Single Doubt gelding has also won at Group 3 level and finished only 1.5 lengths off Regal Power in the Group 1 Railway Stakes of 2019. Drawn out wide in the big field, he will get back under Shaun O’Donnell but be charging at the end over the top. He is the class of the field, and we are getting a good price to see him fly late.

Best Bet – Bunbury StakesRace 8 – Samizdat (#2) $8 with Sportsbet
