Brisbane Racing Club officials will chase the minor placegetters in the Group 2 Villiers in an effort to boost the field for the $300,000 Listed Bernborough Handicap.

The Bernborough (1600m) on December 30 is already the richest Listed race in Australia and carries two major bonus payments.

The first is a $100,000 bonus for any horse that can win the Villiers (1600m) which was run at Randwick on Saturday, and the Bernborough.

The other is a $50,000 bonus for any horse minor placed in the Villiers that wins the Bernborough.

BRC racing manager Matt Rudolph will make a lightning visit to Sydney this week and hopes to secure several top horses for the December 30 meeting at Doomben.

Brisbane’s Crack Me Up won the Villiers but trainer Liam Birchley has indicated he might run in the Magic Millions Cup.

“We would love to have Crack me Up chasing the bonus. But the minor placegetters Cabeza De Vaca and Interlocuter would also be big drawcards,” Rudolph said.

“Gai Waterhouse who trains Cabeza De Vaca is always a great supporter of Queensland racing while Interlocuter is a Godolphin horse and they are sending a team here.”
