Brandenburg and Boss chasing Doncaster

Already the winner of a record seven Doncaster Miles, star jockey Glen Boss is scheduled to partner three-year-old colt Brandenburg in pursuit of another.

Boss, who claimed his seventh Doncaster last year on three-year-old colt Brutal, has been confirmed to partner the John Sargent-trained Brandenburg in Saturday week’s $3 million race at Randwick.

Boss rode Brandenburg when he ran fourth in last Saturday’s weight-for-age George Ryder Stakes, won by Dreamforce.

Sargent said Brandenburg, who is on the third line of Doncaster betting at $11, had come through the Ryder well.

“Glen Boss has elected to ride him over a few others, so that’s a glowing report,” Sargent said.

“He goes in with a very light weight.

“They’ve raised the weights 1kg so he drops 6kg from the George Ryder to 50kg and he’ll be spot-on for that race.

“Glen is going to come and gallop him next Tuesday.”

Racing is still continuing in Australia but with strict protocols in place regarding the coronavirus situation, including travel restrictions for participants and public lock-outs at race meetings.
