Bonneval dominates NZ awards

A day after a winning start to her Melbourne spring campaign, Bonneval has been named New Zealand’s Horse of the Year.

The mare dominated the awards for last season, also claiming the Three-Year-Old category, Stayer of the Year and Filly of the Year.

Her trainers Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman also took the trainers’ award and Bonneval’s dam Imposingly was named Broodmare of the Year.

Bonneval is the first three-year- old filly to be named Horse of the Year since Sunline, in 1999 and the fourth successive Horse of the Year winner to be trained by the stable following Dundeel (2014) and Mongolian Khan (2015 and 2016).

Bonneval is in Melbourne where she won Saturday’s Group Two Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes, her first step in her quest to emulate the 2015 Caulfield Cup success of Mongolian Khan.

She won four of her seven starts as a three-year-old including the New Zealand Oaks and the Australian Oaks.
