Blue Sapphire day quaddie betting with form, odds and free tips

quaddie of the week

IT’S not just another midweek meeting for quaddie punters this week as the $350,000 Blue Sapphire Stakes is on the cards at Caulfield.

The stellar field of 13 includes the highly-touted Flying Artie which ran second behind stablemate Extreme Choice in the Group 1 Blue Diamond before running third in the Group 1 Golden Slipper.

Unbeaten colt Barthelona has great form lines with Modern Wonder finishing third last Saturday and its paying a great price for value each way punters.

Plenty of great racing involved in the quaddie legs this week and punters will get $50 back in bonus bets if your runner finishes second in any of the last four races at Caulfield with CrownBet.

Leg 1 – Movenpick Ice Cream Rating 84 (1400m)

Handsome Tycoon is a 10-win gelding which wasn’t disgraced when fourth at Moonee Valley last start. The Darwin-trained runner looked the goods in upper Queensland and faced the harsh reality of racing in Melbourne in the Chandler Macleod. It bounced back well and it could show up at each way odds here.

Sovereign Nation was narrowly beaten last start which is a good pointer towards a promising spring. The Hayes/Dabernig-trained horse finished eighth in the ATC Derby and although that was disappointing, the form out of that race has stood up well. Tricky draw, but the big field should suit its style.

Demonstrate will have work to do from barrier 20, but its form has to be considered. The John O’Shea-trained four-year-old won well at Pakenham last start and its run prior was a placing behind Hellbent. It looks ready to make the rise up in grade and whilst it will require some Craig Williams magic, it should be well supported in this.

Leg 1 tips: 2, 3, 7

Leg 2 – Blue Sapphire Stakes (1200m)

Flying Artie is the class runner of the field having finished second in the Blue Diamond behind subsequent Group one winner Extreme Choice and also a third placing behind Capitalist in the Golden Slipper. It has a great turn-of-foot and jockey Damien Oliver sticks right with it. Has won and placed on this track and it looks awfully tough to beat.

Barthelona is unbeaten from three starts and it defeated a handy lot last start. The Michael Moroney-trained colt looks likely to handle the rise in distance and punters are getting a great price. It’s currently paying $13 which could add some terrific value to the quaddie payout.

Ken’s Dream has been well-supported following a tough run at Moonee Valley. The Darren Weir-trained colt won its first two career starts by a combined margin of 10 lengths and it should have remained unbeaten last start. Looks set for a decent future and a win here wouldn’t surprise.

Leg 2 tips: 1, 4, 5

Leg 3 – Italktravel Stakes (1200m)

Keen Array is a classy gelding which scored a narrow win the Testa Rossa Stakes last start. The Hayes/Dabernig-trained gelding is twice a winner at Caulfield and three times at this distance. The inside draw is ideal as it likes to sit on the speed and with form around Voodoo Lad, it should be going close again.

Clearly Innocent is a professional seven-time winner which ran on well enough last start at Randwick. It ran on nicely for sixth in The Shorts which followed its previous campaign which included wins in the Country Championship and the Luskin Star. Looks a serious threat in this.

Illustrious Lad has looked good winning its last two starts and its form prior was solid. The Peter Gelagotis-trained gelding finished second behind Supido at Flemington in April and it has won three times at this distance. Drawing barrier 12 isn’t ideal, but it should be considered.

Leg 3 tips: 2, 3, 4

Leg 4 – Nick Johnstone Real Estate Vase (1600m)

Serene Majesty is a quality mare which won the Inglis Guineas at Scone before running fifth in the Sheraco Stakes at Rosehill. The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained mare is only a three-time winner, but it won its only start on this track and Hugh Bowman takes the ride. Chance in an even field.

Antelucan is looking to rebound after a poor effort in the Blazer Stakes last start and it has a fair amount of ability. The four-year-old has had five starts on this track for one win and it is unbeaten in two starts at this distance. Fourth run up here and it should figure in the finish.

Euro Angel is a capable four-year-old which won by 3.25 lengths at Flemington three starts back and it hasn’t disgraced itself since. It finished second in the Rivette Final at Flemington before running second at Warwick Farm. This is another rise in class, but the light weight of 55kg helps.

Egypt has been luckless this campaign and although Caulfield isn’t a track for unlucky horses, it deserves a change in fortune. The Mark Kavanagh-trained mare hasn’t won for awhile, but it has had no room in its last two starts and drawing barrier eight should allow Damien Oliver to come around runners. Include.

Leg 4 tips: 1, 2, 15, 16
