Queensland trainer Liam Birchley will be allowed to continue training in Victoria while he appeals his one-year disqualification over the Aquanita race day treatments case.

The Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal on Friday granted Birchley a stay of his ban pending his appeal.

Birchley’s barrister Michael Grant-Taylor QC said the Queensland trainer faced extraordinary financial circumstances that were far-reaching and ruinous if he remained disqualified from his calling as a trainer.

The Queensland Racing Integrity Commission had enforced the one-year ban imposed by Victoria’s Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board.

Victorian trainer Tony Vasil has also applied for a stay of his three-year disqualification.

The VCAT decision on Vasil’s application will be announced shortly.
