Bendigo Races betting preview – February 23, 2021

‘The Nursery of Champions’ will host an eight-race card on Tuesday afternoon. The track is rated a Good 4, the rail is out 5m for the entire circuit, and the first field is set to face the starter at 1:30pm AEDT. Here are the latest odds and best bets on offer for the Bendigo races this week.

Best Bet: Energy Raider

The Dabernig & Hayes stable will be hoping their four-year-old mare Energy Raider can break through for a win at start seven on the back of four minor placings. She was last seen finishing third at Yarra Valley on January 23 when making ground along the rail but ultimately falling short. Considering Energy Raider was only a half-neck off the second-placed Paris Pike, who has since come out and won, you would think this is her opportunity. She gets the services of Luke Nolen for the first time, which is a plus. The wide barrier does her no favours, but her turn of foot should be enough to break through for a maiden victory. Look for her to savage the line late from the back half of the field.

Best BetRace 4 – Energy Raider (#8) $2.50 with Sportsbet

Next Best: Kiata

Kiata has put together an impressive campaign so far for trainer Rod Symons and looks well placed to bring up her second win in three starts at this Tuesday at Bendigo. We last saw her finishing a length behind Heka Express and Aquagirl, with the latter winning her next start convincingly at Moonee Valley last Friday night. With the form franked from her last race, you would think Kiata would prove hard to catch in the third leg of the quaddie. Expect Patrick Moloney to get her to the front with ease from barrier four, and the lack of early speed in the race means she will have a quiet time of it as she cruises to victory over the 1100m.

Next BestRace 7 – Kiata (#7) $3.50 with Sportsbet

Best Value: Roger’s Day

The George Osborne-trained Roger’s Day broke through for the second win of his career at Ararat on February 7 and looked to have plenty left in the tank whilst doing so. It was his first win since his debut back on September 20, 2019, but he has shown enough this campaign to suggest he is a good each-way shout in the second leg of the Bendigo quaddie. From barrier five we expect him not to be too far from the front throughout the running, and the length of the Bendigo straight should see him doing his best work late over 1300m.

Best ValueRace 6 – Roger’s Day (#5) $10 with Sportsbet
