A bumper nine-race card is scheduled for Bendigo on Friday afternoon, and HorseBetting’s Victorian form analyst presents his best bets and quaddie numbers with odds from Australia’s top bookies. The track is rated a Good 4, although a wet forecast could see that downgraded by race day, while the rail will be out 9m for the entire circuit. The meeting is set to commence at 12:30pm AEST.
Bendigo Best Bet: Vilanculos
We were with the Danny O’Brien-trained Vilanculos when she broke her maiden over the 2400m here on August 20. Despite her last start being a maiden win, the way she won suggested she was a mare to follow going forward. Having started her run 600m out from home, the four-year-old managed to pick off the runners in front of her with relative ease and then put over two lengths on Dubai Moon back in second under hands and heels. John Allen sticks on board, which is a bonus, while the wet forecast should suit a runner who has had seven of her nine career starts on rain-affected ground. With even luck on Friday, Vilanculos should make it consecutive wins at the track and distance.
Race 5 – Vilanculos (#3)Next Best at Bendigo: Toyz On Fire
We were also with Toyz On Fire for her dominant first-up win on the Ballarat synthetic on August 16 when putting upwards of seven lengths on her rivals. The rainy forecast should not hinder her chances, as the four-year-old has a win and a minor placing from three starts on Soft going. With two minor placings from two second-up runs, the Fighting Sun mare should be primed for this, and despite drawing wide in barrier 14, we expect Josh Richards to have her settled midfield with cover. If she produces a similar turn of foot as she did at Ballarat, she should be simply too good.
Race 9 – Toyz On Fire (#11)Bendigo Value Bet: Velicina
Matthew Brown sends four-year-old Velicina to Bendigo following an impressive maiden win at Moe on July 17. Having finished second at her previous two starts, the win was well deserved and could be just the confidence builder required to go on with it. From barrier two, Brian Higgins will have no issue in finding the front on the Written Tycoon mare in a race bereft of early speed. With a handy wet-track record, we anticipate Velicina will be too speedy for her rivals in another front-running display.
