What Bendigo Races

When Friday, August 20, 2021
First Race 1pm AEST

An eight-race card is scheduled for Bendigo on Friday afternoon, and HorseBetting.com.au’s Victorian racing expert presents his best bets and quaddie selections with odds from Australia’s top bookies. The track is rated a Soft 5 with the rail out 5m, and the meeting is set to start at 1pm AEST at the ‘Nursery of Champions’.

Bendigo Best Bet: Cabinho

The Mick Price & Michael Kent Jr-trained Cabinho comes to Bendigo having broken through for a deserved win at Echuca on August 2 and looks well placed to string together consecutive victories. Having chased home the ever-impressive Hosier throughout this campaign, Cabinho managed to put close to three lengths on his rivals at Echuca last time out. Dropping 3kg for Friday’s assignment and keeping Jack Hill in the saddle, the Little Wen five-year-old looks to be a clear best bet at Bendigo. Look for him to roll forward, dictate terms and put them away over 1600m in the second leg of the quaddie.

Next Best at Bendigo: Vilanculos

Despite still being a maiden after eight starts, the Danny O’Brien-trained Vilanculos returns to Bendigo following an excuse-riddled third on August 8 at this track and distance. On that day, the four-year-old Crowded House mare was trapped three wide without cover and went down by three lengths. The race she faces here is no harder than that, and this time she will jump from barrier four so getting caught wide should be no issue. John Allen hops back on board, and with form behind Seiner’s Express two runs back, albeit a 3.5-length defeat, Vilanculos should be simply too good for what looks to be one of the weaker maiden fields going around.

Next Best Again at Bendigo: Refreshed

In the opening leg of the Bendigo quaddie, Ben Brisbourne brings his five-year-old mare Refreshed back from a couple of runs in Adelaide. It is hard to dislike her racing pattern, where she looks to go forward and lead the field up throughout. Despite being outsprinted over he 1250m at her last start on July 30, we anticipate the daughter of Dyna Slam will appreciate getting back to 1400m on Friday. Two starts back she managed to beat home Turfitt, who subsequently won at Morphettville on August 14, suggesting the form is worth following.
