Racing heads to Benalla on Monday afternoon and Horsebetting’s Victorian horse racing form analyst brings you his best bets, top odds and free quaddie selections for the bumper nine-race card. The track is rated a Soft 5, with the rail in the true position for the meeting commencing at 1pm AEDT.
Benalla Best Bet – Bellinger
Our best bet of the day at Benalla comes up in the third leg of the quaddie when the Ben and JD Hayes-trained Bellinger steps out over 1206m. Having hit the line strongly in a handy Class 1 affair at Sale on October 6, we expect the drop into a BM58 at Benalla will be the perfect recipe for success in a bid to get back into the winner’s stall. The Zoustar mare has form behind the likes of Cambourne, Horrifying and Royal Mile which is strong enough form lines to suggest he should be winning here. From barrier five, Josh Richards will have him settled in the second half of the field and with a well-timed steer, we expect Bellinger to be too good here in what looks to be an easy kill from the Lindsay Park stable.
Next Best Bet at Benalla – Bellarina Magic
Ben Brisbourne brings his five-year-old mare Bellarina Magic to the Benalla 1106m having chased home the progressive Brownie at Kilmore on September 28 over 1200m. From barrier four, we expect to see 4kg claiming apprentice Hannah Edgley to have her positioned just off the speed and in a position where she can amble up in the home straight and put her rivals away. With Edgley’s claim, the mare gets in with just 58kg, a 5.5kg weight advantage over race favourite Kootara. We expect the Magic Albert mare to be too strong late from the low draw and with the significant weight advantage.
Best Value Bet at Benalla – Firecat
Andrew Dale and Joe Bowditch are set to combine with Firecat who is coming off a distant third-placed finish at Albury on October 9. Having been sent around as a $2.50 favourite, she simply could not handle the 65kg she needed to lug and ended up being beaten 7.5 lengths on a Soft 5. Firecat gains similar conditions here but gets 7.5kg off that last start effort and despite drawing barrier 15, we expect her to run a bold race at a nice price. She gets a genuine tempo from the leaders over 1206m and with a nice turn of foot, we anticipate this Puissance de Lune mare to eat up the ground and ultimately prove too hard to hold out.
