Belmont is set to host its weekly nine-race card on Saturday afternoon, and HorseBetting.com.au’s Western Australian tipster presents his best bets and quaddie numbers with odds from Australia’s top online bookmakers. The track is rated a Soft 6, the rail is out 3m for the entire circuit, and the meeting will commence at 12:43pm AWST (2:43pm AEST).
Belmont Best Bet: Come Magic
Dion Luciani and William Pike are set to combine with maiden galloper Come Magic in a race full of genuine non-winners. The four-year-old mare looked to have the race sewn up on August 21 when finishing second to Wilchino, but when Pike fumbled the reins with 250m to go, it proved to be the difference. Pikey retains the ride and from barrier two will look to go forward and dictate terms on the He’s A Decoy mare. In the small field of nine, tactics will be key, and under the guidance of Pike, Come Magic should be too speedy for her rivals over 1000m.
Race 5 – Come Magic (#8)Next Best at Belmont: Policiere
Daniel and Ben Pearce bring their three-year-old filly Policiere back to the Belmont 1000m following a smart win at the track and distance on August 28. Having come to that race first-up from a five-month spell, the daughter of Safeguard managed to do her best work late and pull away for a smart win having sat outside the leader for the entire race. From barrier three, look for Brad Rawiller to hold the rail and keep race favourite This’ll Testya one off throughout. Policiere has a touch of race fitness on her side and a second-up win to her name already, and that may well prove the difference in what looks to be a race in two.
Race 3 – Policiere (#6)Best Value at Belmont: Sir Snugalot
In the final race of the day, Sir Snugalot will be looking to make it two wins in succession to begin this campaign. Having led all the way in a dominant win over 1000m on August 28, the Steve Wolfe-trained eight-year-old steps up to the 1200m second-up from a spell and looks ideally placed at a big price. Peter Knuckey will look to settle outside the expected leader, Cliffs Of Comfort, and with confidence gained from the first-up win, expect Sir Snugalot to kick clear on the home turn and prove hard to run down once again.
