Belmont Best Bet: The Front Bar

We were with the Adam Durrant-trained The Front Bar when he won over 1000m here at Belmont on August 7, and the way she won suggested she’s a horse to follow going forward. She gave her rivals a start, and despite being held up she stormed down the outside to claim victory in the final bound in eye-catching fashion. The win came in similar conditions to what she faces here, and despite coming up against the undefeated Trix Of The Trade, we expect The Front Bar to prove too hard to hold out under a well-rated steer from William Pike.

Next Best at Belmont: Notorious One

Having won twice from three starts this campaign, the Chris & Michael Gangemi-trained Notorious One looks perfectly placed to continue his strong form on Saturday afternoon. The six-year-old Animal Kingdom gelding has four wins and a third-place finish to his name from five starts at Belmont and from barrier one is expected to gain a cosy run in transit. Although this horse tends to settle in the second half of the field, we expect Clint Johnston-Porter to be positive early on and have him settled just off the leader’s heels. It looks like only bad luck can keep Notorious One out of the winner’s stall this weekend.

Best Value at Belmont: Jag The Joker

The Ashley Maley-trained Jag The Joker is deep into a long and consistent campaign. She notched a smart victory over the Belmont 1200m on August 11 and looks well-placed to bring up consecutive wins at the track and distance. The six-year-old My Admiration mare has finished in the top three in five of her past six runs, including two wins. From barrier five under Brad Rawiller, we expect her to sit in the one-one just off the leader’s heels, much the same as she did last time out. With even luck in the home straight, Jag The Joker can bring up consecutive victories at a super double-figure price.
