|When||Saturday, August 14, 2021|
|First Race||12:05pm AWST|
A nine-part card is scheduled for Saturday afternoon at Belmont, and HorseBetting’s West Australian racing betting expert presents his best bets and quaddie selections with odds from Australia’s top online bookmakers. The track is rated a Heavy 8, the rail returns to the true position, and the meeting is set to commence at 12:05pm AWST (2:05pm AEST).
Belmont Best Bet: Blazing Away
The David Harrison-trained Blazing Away returns to Belmont in search of a third consecutive win. The four-year-old City Place gelding was an impressive winner over the 1200m on July 28 under similar conditions and has two wins from three starts on Heavy ground. Paul Harvey will have him close to the speed, much the same as he did at his last-start win at the track, and from barrier seven we anticipate the pair will lob in the one-one and prove too good for this No Metro Wins field.
Next Best at Belmont: Strathmore Rose
The Roy Rogers-trained Strathmore Rose was a harsh beat over the Belmont 1000m on July 31 when being left vulnerable late on as Blazing Billy nabbed her on the line. The four-year-old War Chant mare is set to meet her rival again over the track and distance but has several advantages to her name this time round. She draws barrier one, and Madi Derrick hops on with her 2kg claim, getting them in with just 55.5kg – a 3.5kg weight advantage on Blazing Billy. With Hell’s Belle expected to be the leader in the race, look for Strathmore Rose to settle in the box seat, and with even luck she should find herself back in the winner’s stall once more.
Best Value at Belmont: Mr Mt Walker
In the opening leg of the quaddie, the Steve Wolfe-trained Mr Mt Walker looks to continue his strong form in a campaign that has delivered two wins from four starts. He was left flat-footed at a crucial point last time out on August 7 over the 1600m at Belmont, and with a rain-affected track expected he presents great value at the $9 quote. From barrier seven, Peter Knuckey will look to settle the son of Gingerbread Man in the one-one, and if he can show a better sprint than what he did last time out, he looks to be over the odds in this RTG72+ field.
