Belmont Park is scheduled to host a nine-part card on Saturday afternoon on a track rated a Soft 5, with the rail out 3m the entire circuit. The Group 3 Strickland Stakes worth $200,000 over 2000m is the featured event on the program with it run under weight-for-age conditions. HorseBetting’s Western Australia tipping expert presents his best bets, odds comparison and free quaddie selections for the meeting scheduled to get underway at 11:58am AWST (1:58pm AEST).

Strickland Stakes: #2 The Velvet King

There is no questioning the class that the Darren Mcauliffe-trained The Velvet King brings to the Strickland Stakes. He took out the Group 3 Belmont Sprint two runs back on May 29 before finishing fifth in the Hyperion Stakes over 1600m at Belmont on June 12. He steps up to 2000m for just the second time in his career, but with a strong third-up record to his name 5:2-1-1 he looks perfectly placed for this assignment. Regular jockey Mitchell Pateman sticks on board which is an added bonus and with a preference to Soft going everything adds up for another black-type victory for The Velvet King.

Best Bet: Race 9 #10 Bright Diamond

We are saving our best bet until the final race on the Belmont card, when Grant & Alana Williams team up with William Pike aboard Bright Diamond. The four-year-old I Am Invincible mare is yet to miss the top three in any of her three career starts which have all been at Belmont. She was seemingly ridden to the track bias last time out and just couldn’t produce the turn of foot we have become accustomed to when settling close to the speed. On Saturday, we expect Pike to have her settled in the second half of the field, where she can then build through the gears, produce a sharp turn of foot and bring up a second career win over the Belmont 1400 in the final leg of the quaddie.

Next Best: Race 5 #4 Miss Conteki

Simon Miller will be chasing a seventh straight win with his four-year-old mare Miss Conteki. She has proven throughout her career to be tactically versatile, whether it is racing towards the rear of the field or up on speed she can do it all. The Eurozone mare has seven wins from eight career starts so she just simply knows how to win. This will be her first look at Belmont, but with five wins from as many starts over 1000m, we expect her to keep her impressive record intact her at Belmont.

Best Value: Race 3 #5 Blow Me Out

The Brett Pope-trained Blow Me Out will be looking to make it consecutive wins for the first time in her career following a gritty last start win over the Belmont 1400m on June 12. She had the run of the race on that occasion and managed to hold on late holding off a fast-finishing rival. She steps up to 1600m here and from barrier 10, all she will need is a touch of luck early on to be a chance. Jade McNaught has been on board for all three career wins, and she retains the ride here which is a bonus. Having won on a Soft track already she should relish these conditions and will almost certainly be fighting out the finish at a nice price.
