Belmont preview

What Belmont Classic Day 2022
Where Belmont Park Racecourse – Saintly Entrance, Burswood WA 6100
When Saturday, July 30, 2022
First Race 11:09am AWST

Belmont will play host to 10 races on Saturday afternoon after losing its entire meeting seven days ago. HorseBetting’s Western Australian racing analyst presents you with his best bets, value bet and quaddie numbers for the program. The track is still wet, but it is on the improve to a Soft 6, while the rail is out 8m for the entire course. The first of 10 races is scheduled to jump at 11:09am AWST.

Best Bet at Belmont – Black Fantasy

Three-year-old gelding Black Fantasy should be a nice and easy way to start proceedings on Saturday, as the last-start Listed Belmont Classic winner steps right back in grade. Prior to that, the Daniel & Ben Pearce-trained son of Blackfriars won the Listed Aquanita Stakes and ran third in the Belmont Guineas, so he should appreciate the big drop back in class to this Rating 78+ Handicap where he gets in on the minimum. The even-money quote on offer with Australian online betting sites looks more than generous as he shoots for three straight wins.

Best Bet

Race 1 – Silk #5 Black Fantasy (7)

3yo Gelding | T: Daniel & Ben Pearce | J: Lucy Warwick (54kg)

$1.95 with Palmerbet

Next Best at Belmont – Wilchino

There’s no price about Wilchino, but she should be too good for her four rivals in the second race of the day. The Daniel Morton-trained five-year-old mare started favourite in the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes at the end of the year, and while she didn’t beat a runner home due to an issue, it was a good indicator of the ability she has shown. We are happy to forgive her lacklustre first-up run when she faded late after a wide run in transit on the back of no trials. She should strip fitter and be mighty hard to beat under Chris Parnham.

Next Best

Race 2 – Silk #2 Wilchino (2)

5yo Mare | T: Daniel Morton | J: Chris Parnham (59kg)

$2 with Bet365

Best Value at Belmont – Lucky Heart

Five-year-old gelding Lucky Heart comes off a last-start win at Belmont over 1650m, and while this is back to 1600m, he should still be hard to beat. The son of Universal Ruler doesn’t win out of turn, but he may just have the confidence needed for a back-to-back victory on Saturday. The horse has won twice on rain-affected tracks, so that will be a bonus on Saturday, while he should land in a nice spot from barrier nine under regular rider Laqdar Ramoly. The horse is racing well enough to win again at nice odds.

Best Value

Race 4 – Silk #7 Lucky Heart (9)

5yo Gelding | T: Tracey Diederich | J: Laqdar Ramoly (55kg)

$11 with Neds
