The Group 3 Belle of the Turf is the feature race at Gosford on Tuesday. Run over 1600m, a full field of 18 has been assembled for the $160,000 race. Fulmina is the favourite in what is a very open race, ahead of Sausedge and Betcha Flying. Tochi and Vitesse will roll forward, with Missybeel likely to be handy as well.
Richard & Michael Freedman look primed to take out a feature race to race double on Tuesday, with promising filly On The White Turf our on top pick here. Coming off a huge win at Canterbury last start from well back, the five-year-old Savabeel mare will be suited by the genuinely run mile. She’s the fit horse on the scene and is racing in career best form this time in, so she’ll take some beating. Barrier 8 will see Keegan Latham settle a touch worse than midfield, but at $13 she is well and truly a great each way play.
Robert & Luke Price combine with Jay Ford here with tough mare, Tochi. After finishing third to On The White Turf last start, the Al Maher mare will make her own luck up on the speed. She’s won at Gosford in the past, races well at a mile and gets her preferred sting out of the ground. Generally, Gosford plays towards those handy to the speed upon straightening on the short straight, so she’ll be one there to give a great sight at $26.
Fulmina broke the hearts of punters around the country when she offered none at Randwick two Saturdays back when a heavily backed odds-on favourite. Trained by Mark Newnham, the four-year-old Snitzel mare is probably the best horse in this race if she can get back to her best after her head scratcher last start. Prior to that, she was super coming from the back to run third. The track pattern is against her from the wide draw, so we do think she’s a touch unders, but her best is good enough.
