Ballarat Horse Betting Preview – February 07, 2021
Racing heads to Ballarat on Sunday afternoon to round out a Group 1 weekend of racing in Melbourne with an eight race card set down for decision. With the track coming up a Good 4 and the rail out 4m from the winning post to 1600m we should see the track play fairly throughout the day and as is often the case at Ballarat every runner will get their chance if good enough.
The first at Ballarat is set to jump at 1:25pm AEDT.
Best Bet: South Parade #6
Following a close up second upon resumption at Caulfield on January 13, it is hard to go past the John Sadler trained South Parade. The step back from a metropolitan maiden to a country maiden looks to be ideal for him and having drawn the rails he draws to do no work throughout the running. The winner of that race at Caulfield went on to compete in the Manfred Stakes at its next start, and despite being well held that looks to be the right form heading into this race. In the winter he ran to within three and a half lengths of Cherry Tortoni and you would think he needs to just replicate his last start performance to be breaking his maiden on Sunday.
Next Best: Pal D’oro #5
The first two career starts of the Maher and Eustace trained Pal D’oro suggests this first up assignment for the three-year-old colt looks an ideal way for him to break his maiden. Prior to heading for a spell he was a close second to a handy galloper by the name of Embolism, and if Embolism was in this race he would be a short odds-on quote. Pal D’oro actually trialled at Geelong on January 28 and was a length and a half off Embolism showing he has returned in fine style and should be fighting out the finish here. He is a get back and run on type of horse and if he gets a genuine tempo he should be too strong over the concluding stages for a field like this.
