When Monday, June 20, 2022
First Race 1pm AEST

Ballarat Turf Club is scheduled to host an eight-part card on the club’s synthetic track on Friday afternoon. HorseBetting’s Victorian horse racing form analyst presents his best bets, odds comparison and free quaddie selections for the meeting scheduled to get underway at 1pm AEST.

Best Bet at Ballarat – Keppel Bay

We do not need to wait too long for our best bet of the day, as the Ben & JD Hayes-trained Keppel Bay steps out in the opening event over 1200m. The Capitalist filly was nowhere near her best when resuming at Cranbourne on a rain-affected track but considering in her three career starts in her initial campaign, she raced on firmer decks and finished second in all starts, the synthetic surface is sure to suit her perfectly. From barrier two, Josh Richards will look to lead the field up and with no other known leaders in the race, the three-year-old filly is almost certain to gain an uncontested lead throughout the event. If they are afforded that luxury, Keppel Bay should prove too hard to run down.

Best Bet

Race 1 – Silk #5 Keppel Bay (2)

3yo Filly | T: Ben & JD Hayes | J: Josh Richards (56kg)

$3.10 with Palmerbet

Next Best at Ballarat – Mietta

Coming off a smart debut win over the track and distance, we expect the Tony & Calvin McEvoy-trained Mietta will go on with the job at the Ballarat 1200m. The three-year-old filly managed to kick nicely in the straight after settling outside the leader and despite doing a bit wrong in the home straight, packed plenty to bring up a nice win. Despite staying at the six furlongs, she is drawn perfectly to gain a similar run in transit, if not lob in the one-one under Mitch Aitken. Outside of market rival Precious Socks, this field does not look to be much chop and with $6 available with online bookmakers, Mietta looks a great bet on price alone.

Next Best

Race 7 – Silk #6 Mietta (4)

3yo Filly | T: Tony & Calvin McEvoy | J: Mitch Aitken (62.5kg)

$6 with Neds

Best Value at Ballarat – War Dog

Despite finishing midfield at Swan Hill on June 10, one we are willing to give a chance at a big price is the Ben Brisbourne-trained War Dog. The three-year-old gelding manage to string together consecutive runner-up efforts prior to that faulter at Swan Hill and looks well placed to bounce back and break his maiden at start seven. His form line does stack up nicely, as three starts back he beat home Lady Ardoyne at Donald, who has subsequently come out and bolted in his maiden on the Ballarat Synthetic 1500m last week. From barrier seven, we expect Hannah Edgley to look to land in the one-one and with just 57.5kg on his back, War Dog looks to be over the odds with $18 available with online betting sites.

Best Value

Race 4 – Silk #7 War Dog (7)

3yo Filly | T: Ben Brisbourne | J: Hannah Edgley (a2) (59.5kg)

$18 with Unibet
