Ballarat racing preview
A rare Thursday meeting at Ballarat offers a bumper nine-race card in the build up to a huge weekend. The track has come up a Good 4 and a perfect spring day is forecasted, so each runner will have their respective chances. The rail is back in the true position, while the first race is set to jump at 1pm AEDT.
The Hayes & Dabernig team would have been impressed with this 4YO mare’s first-up effort when finishing second in a race that saw the 955m track record at The Valley broken. She was well beaten by the eventual winner, but she easily accounted for the rest of the field and had about three lengths on those behind her. From barrier two, Michael Rodd may opt to settle her just behind the leaders and be the fresh pair of heels late over the 1000m sprint.

Fresh off a 22-week spell, Zoushine drops in class to a maiden that looks very winnable, especially if she can run up to what she showed in her juvenile campaign. She has form behind the impressive Ecumenical, and she gets back to a good surface for the first time since her debut performance. Luke Currie may opt to take up the running from barrier 14, and the filly could prove too hard to catch with a bit of class on her side.

Simon Wilde and Dean Yendall team up in the final race at Ballarat with Auld Regret, who was a touch disappointing last time out at Geelong and will look to bounce back here. Two starts ago she was a convincing winner at Ararat after settling back in the field and charging down the outside late. After drawing out wide here, the 4YO mare will need to go back in the field again. With a nice turn of foot, she’ll be right in the finish at good odds.
