What Ballarat Races
Where Ballarat Turf Club – 240 Kennedys Road, Miners Rest VIC 3352
When Tuesday, June 29, 2021
First Race 1pm AEST

An eight-part card is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon at Ballarat Turf Club, and HorseBetting’s Victorian racing expert presents his best bets, value picks and free quaddie selections. The meeting is set to be run on the club’s synthetic track, with the first race set to jump at 1pm AEST.

Ballarat Best Bet: Ronay

Patrick Payne sends his synthetic specialist Ronay back to the Ballarat 1400m, where she is a formidable beast over the track and distance. With a career record standing at 9:4-3-1, this five-year-old mare will be looking to string together consecutive victories following a well-timed run on June 25. The four-day break should be no issue, and all she needs to do is bring her previous form on Tuesday to be a threat. She will settle in the second half of the field, but with Tayla Childs’ 3kg claim we expect to see Ronay savaging the line late and
proving too hard to hold out in the third leg of the quaddie.

Best BetRace 7 – Ronay (#8) $4.60 with Sportsbet

Next Best at Ballarat: Michante

The Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained Michante comes to the Ballarat 1500m following a narrow win over the 1400m on debut here on June 10. The three-year-old Americain filly managed to break her maiden despite settling three wide with no cover, grinding out the victory in less than favourable conditions. From barrier four on Tuesday she should have no issue in settling one off the rails outside the leader, and with apprentice Josh Richards hopping on board with his 2kg claim, the pair look hard to hold out in the final leg of the quaddie.

Next BestRace 8 – Michante (#3) $3.20 with Sportsbet

Ballarat Value Bet: Secret Hero

Patrick Payne is no stranger to giving his horses a quick backup, and that looks to be the case with Secret Hero on Tuesday. Having finished second on June 25, the four-year-old gelding is on the four-day turnaround in a bid to break his maiden. He sped out to lead on Friday over this track and distance but over-raced at crucial stages and faded late to finish second behind the favourite. If Christine Puls can get this son of Von Costa De Hero to settle better underneath her, the pair could pinch this maiden on the back of a well-rated steer.

Best ValueRace 3 – Secret Hero (#5) $7.50 with Sportsbet
