First Race 1pm AEST

Ballarat will host an eight-part card on Tuesday afternoon on the club’s all-weather track. HorseBetting.com.au’s Victorian form analyst presents his best bets, quaddie numbers and odds comparison for the meeting, with the first set to jump at 1pm AEST.

Ballarat Best Bet: The Defiant One

Ciaron Maher & David Eustace take the resuming The Defiant One to the Ballarat synthetic on Tuesday in a bid to break his maiden at start four. In his near seven-month spell he has been gelded, and connections will be looking for him to run a big race first-up. He has shown the ability to lead the field up in two of his three starts, and from barrier four we expect John Allen to take him straight to the front and stay there. In a race that seems to lack early pace, The Defiant One should get a quiet time out in front, and if that is the case, he just needs to run out the 1200m to win this.

Best BetRace 3 – The Defiant One (#7) $2.80 with Sportsbet

Next Best at Ballarat: Scarlett Heart

In the final leg of the quaddie, we hope the Maher & Eustace and John Allen combination can send us home with another winner when they combine with Scarlett Heart. The four-year-old Stryker mare has struggled in BM64 class in recent times, so she should appreciate the drop back into BM58 grade. From the wide barrier she will need a bit of luck in gaining cover, but we are back the crafty Allen to make that happen. Despite going around at a big price last time out, Scarlett Heart was seemingly a good thing beaten when being held up for a run at a crucial time. With even luck, she should win this.

Next BestRace 8 – Scarlett Heart (#3) $2.25 with Sportsbet

Ballarat Value Bet: Boom Boom Sweet

The Matt Cumani-trained Boom Boom Sweet has finished out of the top three on just one occasion from nine starts, so he is the one we want to be with in the second leg of the quaddie. The four-year-old son of Jakkalberry managed to beat home Echo Boomer in his last run before heading for a six-month spell, and that runner has proven to be a smart one in Adelaide metropolitan grade. From barrier two on Tuesday, we expect Tatum Bull to have him settled just off the leaders’ heels, and with Bull’s 2kg claim getting him in at 58kg he looks hard to beat.

Best ValueRace 6 – Boom Boom Sweet (#4) $6 with Sportsbet
