What Ballarat Races
Where Ballarat Turf Club – 240 Kennedys Road, Miners Rest VIC 3352
When Thursday, October 21, 2021
First Race 1:30pm AEDT

The Ballarat Turf Club is scheduled to host an eight-race card on Thursday afternoon, and HorseBetting’s Victorian racing analyst present his best bets and quaddie numbers for the meeting. The track is rated a Soft 5, the rail is out 5m for the entire circuit, and racing gets underway at 1:30pm AEDT.

Ballarat Best Bet – Salto Angel

The country’s best maiden is set to resume off a five-month spell and looks perfectly placed to break the duck at start 13. Salto Angel has six runner-up performances to her name, including a second-place finish behind Personal in the Group 1 VRC Oaks in 2020 and also a placing in the Listed VRC St Leger on April 25 this year. She has form behind Liqueuro, Explosive Jack and Duais, so she is arguably a class above this lot. From barrier two, John Allen will make sure she gets the run of the race, and with even luck we expect Salto Angel to finally break through for a deserved win.

Next Best at Ballarat – Groovy Kind Of Love

Despite drawing the carpark (barrier 17), we anticipate the Michael Kent-trained Groovy Kind Of Love will bounce back from an unlucky run at Mornington on September 26. Having been held up for a run until the final 100m, the Smart Missile mare jumped out of the ground once she saw clear air and was only beaten by under a half-length. Damian Lane will look to have the five-year-old settled in the second half of the field and make sure he has her moving entering the home straight. She has a strong turn of foot and considering she has only missed the top three on one occasion from 10 starts, she hardly knows how to run a poor race. Look for Lane to have her hitting the line nicely.

Next BestRace 7 – Groovy Kind Of Love (#3) $3.50 with Sportsbet

Ballarat Value Bet – Pitchanun

We were keen on the Danny O’Brien-trained Pitchanun’s chances at Cranbourne on October 15 before that meeting was abandoned, and we expect she will run a cheeky race here on Thursday. The Savabeel mare boasts above-average ability and despite wanting further than the 1400m she gets on Thursday, look for her to be hitting the line nicely. If the brakes come, she may just prove too powerful late on her way to nicer races throughout the spring.

Best ValueRace 6 – Pitchanun (#9) $7.50 with Sportsbet
