The Ballarat Turf Club is scheduled to host an eight-race card on Monday afternoon and Horsebetting’s Victorian horse racing form analyst presents his best bet tips, top odds and free quaddie numbers. The track is rated a Soft 5, with the rail out 8m the entire circuit, for the meeting commencing at 1pm AEDT.
Ballarat Best Bet – Speed Lover
The Tony & Calvin McEvoy yard will be hoping their three-year-old filly Speed Lover can go one better than her second-placed effort on debut with a maiden win at Ballarat on Monday. The Street Boss filly managed to lead the field up over 1000m on October 21 and managed to offer a kick in the home straight, before being ultimately run down in the final 50m to be beaten by 0.5-lengths. She is set to jump from the widest barrier here (12) and we anticipate Dean Holland, who sticks on board will look to get her out of the gates cleanly and hunt for the rail. She may be forced to settle outside Lily Allez up on speed, but with race day experience under her belt now, we anticipate Speed Lover will have too much toe for this lot over 1000m.
Next Best at Ballarat – Andalusia
We were with the James Cummings-trained Andalusia at an each-way price when she ran third at Mornington on October 7, and we think she can finally break her maiden tag at start seven. The three-year-old Brazen Beau filly was hitting the line nicely first-up at Mornington, but ultimately found one better in Niccolite, who has since been competitive at Stakes grade. From barrier nine, we expect John Allen will look to roll forward and have the Godolphin filly settled in the one-one where she can then stalk the speed. She stays at 1200m which is no detriment to her chances and with a well-timed sprint, we expect Andalusia to be too hard to hold out.
