A bumper nine-race card is scheduled for the Ballarat Turf Club’s synthetic track on Friday, and HorseBetting’s Victorian form analyst presents his best bets and quaddie picks for the meeting. Despite rain being forecast, every runner should get their chance throughout the day. Racing is set to commence at 11:50am AEST.
Ballarat Best Bet: My Boy Birmingham
In the opening leg of the quaddie, it looks to be a race in two between Muswellbrook and our best bet of the day, My Boy Birmingham. The Tony & Calvin McEvoy-trained son of Unencumbered has put together two wins from three career starts, with both of those coming over the 1500m on the Ballarat synthetic. It is hard to knock his racing pattern, as he jumps smoothly from the barriers and looks to head straight to the rails and dictate terms. From barrier five under Dean Holland, the four-year-old should have no issue in leading this field up and should get his own way out in front. If he can offer a kick on the home turn, it is hard to see Muswellbrook and the rest of them running down My Boy Birmingham over the 1500m.
Race 6 – My Boy Birmingham (#8)Next Best at Ballarat: Andress
The Lindsey Smith-trained Andress simply did not handle the Soft 7 track when first-up at Casterton on July 19, but she should appreciate getting onto the synthetic surface for the first time. With two runner-up efforts in her initial campaign, the now four-year-old will be fit enough to sit close to the speed under riding from Declan Bates. Despite drawing barrier 14, expect Bates to settle her just outside the leader’s girth. If she brings the sort of form we saw earlier in the year, Andress should put a couple of lengths on her rivals in quick time.
Race 4 – Andress (#1)Ballarat Value Bet: Diesel ‘N’ Dust
Jason Warren and Dean Krongold send their four-year-old gelding Diesel ‘N’ Dust to Ballarat and will be hoping he can replicate his win on the Pakenham synthetic two starts back. His win on June 28 saw him lead throughout, and he is perfectly placed to produce a similar effort here on Friday. Celine Gaudray will hop on board with her 2kg claim, and from barrier four she should have no issue in getting the son of Pride Of Dubai to the front of the field. If he can do that against this lot, he should be too hard to run down over the concluding stages of the 1200m.
