First Race 1:30pm AEST

Horsebetting’s Victorian form expert presents his free best bets and quaddie numbers for Tuesday’s meeting on the Ballarat Synthetic. With seven of the best scheduled to be run on the all-weather track, we will be looking to cure those mid-week blues with a few winners.

The first of seven races is set to jump at 1:30pm AEST.

Best Bet at Ballarat – Nicconi Express

We will need to keep our powder dry in terms of our best bet, as the Tony & Calvin McEvoy-trained Nicconi Express steps out in the final event over 1200m. The five-year-old gelding was dominant when breaking his maiden last time out at the track and distance when second-up after a long spell. The son of Nicconi had resumed from an 87-week lay off the start prior, only to put it all together on the Ballarat Synthetic at his subsequent start. Despite the step into BM62 company, this is not the deepest race in the world. He has 2.5 length defeat to his name when running second behind the classy Beau Rossa in his initial campaign and if he produces anything close to that, then the $2.30 with bookmakers is a genuine steal.

Best Bet

Race 7 – Silk #1 Nicconi Express (4)

5yo Gelding | T: Tony & Calvin McEvoy | J: Dean Holland (62kg)

$2.30 with Palmerbet

Next Best at Ballarat – Ronay

We have been a big supporter of the Patrick Payne-trained Ronay and we are going to the well one more time on Tuesday. The seven-year-old mare is a genuine synthetic specialist boasting a career record of 28: 8-8-3. The unfortunate thing for punters in recent times is that the Delago Deluxe mare has finished second at her past four starts, but Tuesday looks to be her day. Tayla Childs takes over the steer from Maddi Price and we expect the 2kg claiming apprentice gets the job done this time round. From barrier nine, Childs will need to go forward on the mare and have her settled outside the leader, or at worst in the one-one considering she needs to lug 61.5kg. If Ronay can do that, then she simply looks to be a class above her rivals in these conditions.

Next Best

Race 5 – Silk #2 Ronay (9)

7yo Mare | T: Patrick Payne | J: Tayla Childs (a2) (63.5kg)

Best Value at Ballarat – Grand Quill

Brian Lawlor and Alana Kelly will once again combine with the old-timer Grand Quill who steps out of BM70 company back into a BM64. The seven-year-old gelding found the going a bit too tricky last time out, but his win four starts prior to that, has him right in a race like this. With a win and three minor placings in similar company to what he faces on Tuesday, the Longhorn gelding gets his chance to bring up a third career win. He will be giving his rivals a start, but with Kelly sticking on board and race fitness on his side, look for Grand Quill to be hitting the line strongly and hopefully be the one to get the bob in.

Best Value

Race 6 – Silk #6 Grand Quill (3)

7yo Gelding | T: Brian Lawlor | J: Alana Kelly (57kg)
