A rare Wednesday afternoon meeting at Ballarat has an eight-race card for punters to sink their teeth into, with plenty to be learnt throughout the day. The track has come up a Soft 7 after the rain over the weekend and will most likely stay in that range even with more showers forecasted.
Take note: the rail is out 4m from the 1600-800m mark and then out 8m the remainder, so it may pay to be on speed early. The first race is set to jump at 1pm AEST.
Wednesday racing tips for Ballarat
Trainer Shea Eden declared Housay a good thing prior to his debut performance at Wodonga. He absolutely bolted in by seven lengths eased down and never looked like getting beaten despite travelling three wide with no cover the entire race. The step up to city class racing shouldn’t be an issue, as he looks more than capable of going on with the job here. In what looks like a deep Class 1, we may get better odds than $2.40 closer to the jump, but any drift should not deter punters.

Archie Alexander’s colt just missed on debut at Geelong at big odds when he was runner-up in a race that looks a good form pointer. He beat home the quinella of the Derby Trial last week, so he looks overs at $4 or so if that effort is any indicator. He was arguably the run of the race on debut when settling second last and storming down the outside to go down by under a length. If he can produce another run like that, he will take a power of holding out in the opening race.

Udyta Clarke’s 4YO mare looks great value in what is a wide-open market for the last race on the card at Ballarat. She will need to overturn the one-length defeat to the favourite, Zende, from two runs back, but the 2kg advantage here should be beneficial. She maps to settle well back in the field but will come down the outside late.
