Balaklava horse racing tips

Racing in South Australia on Wednesday takes place at Balaklava, where a small seven-race card is set down for decision on what looks to be a perfect day for gallops. The going is a Good 4 and the rail remains in the true position throughout the entire circuit, so we’re set fair for what should be a competitive day of midweek racing. The first at Balaklava will jump at 1:45pm ACDT.

Best BetRace 7 – Zume Forward (#9) $3.20 with Sportsbet

On what looks a tricky day for punters, we’re hoping the combination of Cody Reardon and Karl Zechner can send us home on the right note. A fortnight ago over the same track and distance, Zume Forward looked to have the race sewn up over the final 100m but was grabbed on the line after being a well-supported favourite. She enters this event third up, where she has placed previously, and should use barrier two to great advantage. She should prove hard to hold out in what looks to be a thin BM54 to round out the card.

Next BestRace 4 – Justedee (#2) $1.55 with Sportsbet

John Hyam’s four-year-old gelding had nothing go his way when racing over this track and distance a fortnight ago. The in-form Caitlin Jones retains the ride and from barrier one should get a lot more favours than what they were afforded last time out when caught three wide with no cover. With a slow tempo expected over the mile, they should be able to settle just off the leaders and produce a turn of foot at the top of the home straight that may catch their rivals napping.

Next Best AgainRace 3 – Back Pocket (#1) $3.90 with Sportsbet

If you rule a line through Back Pocket’s last-start effort in a BM58 in town, the form prior to that doesn’t read too badly. He’s finished in the minor money three of his last five starts, and it looks to be the right form to go with in this Class 1 race on Wednesday. Jockey Ryan Hurdle may look to use barrier three to his advantage and spear across to the rails to dictate terms from out in front. The Sue Nolan-trained gelding is rock-hard fit and will take a bit of running down if he gets a quiet time of it out in front.
