Balaklava Cup Day 2020 betting tips, odds & form

Balaklava Racing Club

Nine races are set down for judgement on Balaklava Cup Day, with the track coming up a Good 4 and perfect conditions forecasted. The rail is in the true position for the meeting, so we are set fair for what is bound to be a good day of racing.

Wednesday racing tips for Balaklava Cup Day

Best Bet
Race 1 – Alleboom @ $3.20 Sportsbet

What might seem a tough opener to the day actually looks a nice bet for the top weight, Alleboom. This 3YO colt has yet to finish outside the top two and can continue the good form here. With Jacob Opperman’s claim he drops down to 57kg and looks well rated to dictate terms up in front from the wide barrier. He’s had the benefit of racing here before over this track and distance when breaking his maiden on debut. The main danger looks to be stablemate Riched (#2).

Next Best
Race 9 – Trip @ $2.90 Sportsbet

Trip looked the winner when making the turn at Morphettville a fortnight ago before being run down by Lady Bethany. With apprentice Margaret Collett on board and with her 2kg claim, this looks an ideal race for the catch-me-if-you-can tactic that nearly paid off last start. This 4YO mare doesn’t win out of turn, with only one victory from 17 starts, but the final race of the day looks the way for punters to blast out.

Best Value
Race 7 – Peleton @ $11 Sportsbet

For the Listed Balaklava Cup, we’ve settled on a galloper who actually toppled the race favourite in East Indiaman last start. Peloton is $11 at the time of writing, whereas East Indiaman is a $6.50 favourite. Having come over from New Zealand for this campaign, the 4YO gelding has been building a nice record in South Australia and is a big chance to continue that on Wednesday. He gets an extra 1.5kg off his back after that effort, while in-form hoop Jessica Eaton will have the chance to go forward again from the wide barrier.
