Bacchanalia gets the head down to secure Star Kingdom Stakes

Bacchanalia got the job done in Saturday’s Star Kingdom Stakes.

Rachel King has pushed out Bacchanalia to take out the Group 3 Star Kingdom Stakes on Saturday afternoon for Godolphin and James Cummings.

Things couldn’t have gone to plan any better for Bacchanalia, holding a perfect position throughout the 1200m trip. Latching onto the back of The Face who looked to travelling at a fast clip along side Coal Crusher who bravely held onto third position.

Zac Lloyd and Clemenceau launched late as Bacchanalia hit the front, but it was too late as Rachel King got the head down to secure victory in the photo finish.

Seemingly the horses at the top of the weight scale didn’t finish off well with Weona Smartone pulled up at the rear of the field as market favourite, in a race where not many runners made up ground.

Bacchanalia has now chalked up win number six for team Godolphin at the seventeenth time of asking, starting to build a nice record.

Darren Beadman spoke post-race again after speaking on Amur earlier in the day.

“He won the Bert Lillye very impressively last start,” said Beadman.

“He just went through his gears, it was a soft win.

“He’s won a Gosford Guineas, he’s been a very very honest and game horse for us and a lovely ride with a light weight with Rachel (King) on board.

“She kept it very simple, but she was strong at the finish.”

Rachel King spoke about the position she was able to acquire in the run being a key factor scoring the win. She as gave credit to how well prepared horse are in the Godolphin blue.

“I was definitely happy to have that 53kg’s on my back,” said King.

“The horse was super, he began well, put himself in a beautiful spot. Just traveled really well the whole way, I knew he still had that little more to give from the furlong home.
“He showed how tough and honest he is.

“It all worked out really perfectly, obviously the horse was produced in perfect condition today and he was able to get the job done.

“It’s always an honour to put on these silks and even more of an honour to win a stakes race for them.”
