Best Bet: Tavis Court
The Open sprint over 1400m is where we find the best bet of the day in Tavis Court, who is peaking third-up from a spell after two sound efforts to open this prep. He is the carded top weight but benefits from a handy 3kg claim from improving apprentice Lemmy Douglas. He has winning form on the course and is at his best when the tracks are at their worst. He will challenge at some point early in the home straight, and at his best he is a hard horse to get past.

Sinbin produced a big late finish on debut when running third and was within a length of winning that race. That effort confirmed her promise that she showed when winning her only public trial at the end of last month. It is normally a good sign when they back up so quickly after their first start and with a senior hoop on today she shouldn’t get as far back in the running early on. A wet track is no problem and she won’t be a maiden much longer.

A winner of his most recent start over hurdles, Suliman could be at some value in the 2200m Parliamentary Handicap. He still has some dash on the flat and won’t lack fitness. His trainers do have a knack for producing winning results with similar horses, and by this time of the day it will come down to the survival of the fittest. For that reason, we expect Suliman to be grinding home and he could have the last say at some each-way value.
