The Rangitikei Cup is the feature at Awapuni on Saturday and Town Cryer should be hard to beat after finishing a sound sixth at WFA level last start and before that winning the ANZAC mile here on a heavy track. She drops nicely in weight today and should either lead or take up a handy spot from her most suitable inside draw. She has gone to another level this season and is capable of taking this field all the way. Stick with her.

The best bet comes early in the programme with Stella Splendida looking to make it two wins in a row this prep after a convincing fresh up performance at Hawera late last month. She seems best with her races being spaced out at this stage of her career and she will also benefit by being back against her own age group. She drops 1 kilo in weight and will be given every chance by Ryan Elliot who is having a season to remember.

Best Value at Arawa Park – Wheelitin
Wheelitin was spotted making up plenty of ground late in the piece at Otaki fresh up and he could have finished a lot closer had he got moving earlier, as it was he closed off strongly through and after the line. She will strip fitter and shouldn’t get as far back this time. She thrives on a wet track and in a wide open field there should be a good each-way price to be found.
