Avilius headlines Tancred Stakes line-up

A capacity field of 14 plus two emergencies has accepted for the Tancred Stakes, one of two Group One races for Rosehill’s final meeting of the autumn carnival.

Godolphin galloper Avilius will wear the number one saddlecloth in Saturday’s 2400m weight-for-age race as he looks to extend his unbeaten run to five on Sydney tracks.

Avilius has drawn barrier seven and will be ridden by James McDonald replacing Kerrin McEvoy who had the mount in the Ranvet Stakes at Rosehill last Saturday.

Red Cardinal will be out to extend his winning run after wins in the Parramatta Cup and Sky High Stakes at his only two runs for Kris Lees and will start from barrier 12, while stablemate Big Duke will start from gate nine.

Victorian trainers are well represented with six runners including Lindsay Park pair Muntahaa and Ventura Storm.

The Vinery Stud Stakes for three-year-old fillies over 2000m has brought together a field of 13 with Nakeeta Jane, a last-start third in the Randwick Guineas behind The Autumn Sun, to carry the number one saddlecloth.

Nakeeta Jane’s Mark Newnham-trained stablemates Greysful Glamour and Scarlet Dream have drawn barriers six and eight respectively with Chris Waller’s pair of Verry Elleegant and Zalatte drawing five and 13.

VRC Oaks winner Aristia is having her third run since winning the Group One race and will start from gate 10 for Golden Slipper-winning jockey Damian Lane.
