2ndZarastro (-166.67)
3rdIt’sourtime (+120)

Recent runnings of the Aurie’s Star Handicap:

  • The Anthony & Sam Freedman-trained Right To Party ($3.80) came with a withering burst to claim the Group 3 Aurie’s Star Handicap (1200m). The daughter of Zoustar has been racing in a rich vein of form, making it a hat-trick of wins at the course and distance with Jye McNeil in the saddle. It was another patient steer aboard the lightly raced four-year-old that paid dividends, with McNeil allowing Right To Party to settle towards the rear of the field throughout the 1200m contest, leaving Zarastro ($4.40) and The Astrologist ($5.00) to battle it out for the early lead. Jamie Kah was able to dictate terms aboard the Brisbane raider in the middle stages, allowing Zarastro to stride clear under a hold with 400m left to travel. Rocketing By ($23.00) and Nicolini Vito ($6.00) launched their claims from behind the leading pair, while track and distance specialist It’sourtime ($7.00) was making his run down the grandstand side of the course. Zarastro looked to be bounding clear with the prize in the final furlong, however, it was the well-supported favourite, Right To Party, passing by all challengers on her way to claim her first Group level victory.
  • Danny O’Brien and Michael Dee combined to kick off the new racing season with a bang, as It’sourtime produced his brilliant best to take out the Group 3 Aurie’s Star Handicap at Flemington. Michael Dee was booked for just the second time on the son of Time For War, heading back toward the rear of the field; although, ultimately drawing the favourable grandstand side of the course. It proved to be a winning move from the star jockey, with plenty of speed taking It’sourtime into the race. He was then able to show his electric turn-of-foot after peeling off the backs of some tiring on-speed gallopers. Runner-up Umgawa ($34) had shown some indifferent form, but was able to find second place, while the trifecta spot went the way of Chassis ($21) who also seemed to relish the hot tempo engaged.
  • It was as simple as jump, lead and win in the Group 3 Aurie’s Star Handicap for track specialist Sirius Suspect. The Saab Hasan-trained eight-year-old went into the 1200m sprint as a well-supported second favourite as he searched for a fifth win down the Flemington straight. After jumping cleanly from barrier six under Ethan Brown, the son of Wanted controlled the race from the front and gave a terrific kick when asked for a supreme effort, getting away from Shooting For Gold and setting an unassailable margin for Stageman and King Of Sparta to reel in.
  • The Astrologist managed to take out the Aurie’s Star Handicap at Flemington, claiming his first group success while adding to an impressive form-line as the Spring Carnival approaches. The five-year-old son of Zoustar brought up his third win from his past four starts when holding out Romancer and Too Good Too Hard in the concluding stages of the Group 3 race at Flemington. The horse showed plenty of group 1 potential, after being left vulnerable late on in the Aurie’s Star. The in-form runner hit the lead with 400m to go and managed to keep his rivals at bay.
  • Champion jockey Damien Oliver has continued his recent domination of the Group 3 Aurie’s Star Stakes, making it four wins in the past seven years and his fifth in total on Home Of The Brave. Godolphin’s Melbourne stable foreman Sean Keogh said Oliver’s quick thinking at the start of the 1200m race secured the win as he had to overcome adversity after receiving a bump from Great Again, who was drawn to his outside. Oliver was then able to stalk Great Again and run him down in the closing stages. Oliver said his mount was sandwiched in the incident but added the horse didn’t jump well anyway and felt he was not overly disadvantaged. Home Of The Brave ($5) defeated Great Again ($4.40 fav) by three-quarters of a length with Game Keeper ($8.50) a long neck away third.
