Aurie’s Star 2020 betting tips, racing odds & form guide

So Si Bon
So Si Bon is one of the big names resuming in the Group 3 Aurie’s Star Handicap at Flemington this weekend.

The Group 3 Aurie’s Star Handicap is the feature event on Flemington’s nine-race program this Saturday. Run over the Straight Six course at HQ, a field of 11 will compete for the $160,000 prize purse as a number of quality sprinters and middle-distance horses resume for their spring campaigns. Great Again and Home Of The Brave share the top line in Aurie’s Star 2020 betting, with Widgee Turf and Hightail the only two other runners in single figures. The two favourites will be forward in the run, with The Crusha and Yulong January both likely to settle towards the pace.

Best Bet
Home Of The Brave @ $4.60 Sportsbet

Home Of The Brave made his Australian debut in this race two years ago when a narrow runner-up to Voodoo Lad, so he is out to make amends for that defeat here. The Starspangledbanner gelding has looked in good touch lately without winning. He hasn’t won for a long time, which is a big concern for us, but he races very well down the Flemington straight and has race fitness on his side. Drawn wide on the straight course is a positive, and the booking of Damien Oliver shows great intent for the nine-year-old. He should find the front and take some serious catching.

Next Best
So Si Bon @ $9 Sportsbet

The enigmatic So Si Bon resumes here and has been well supported in the market early, firming from $14 into $9 by Thursday afternoon. Mark Zahra will ride the So You Think gelding for the fifth time and look to improve his already solid connection with the horse, having won twice and run second twice from just four rides. Despite only winning five times from 51 career starts, two victories at the back end of his last campaign indicate a strong vein of form. He races well at Flemington and goes well fresh, which only helps his chances. The seven-year-old should get a lovely cart into the race from gate three and charge home late.

Best Value
Trope @ $13 Sportsbet

Another horse who has always shown ability without quite putting it all together is Julius Sandhu’s Trope. Formerly with the Hawkes operation in Sydney, Trope has been sent around in the Newmarket, Oakleigh Plate and Manikato Stakes in his last three runs, where he has been luckless and slightly outclassed. Getting back to Group 3 level should see him run much better, and he will be suited by the fast tempo as a get-back-and-run-on type. He only has the one win to his name, which came on debut, but he has since placed at Listed, Group 3 and Group 2 level. He should go well first up and take some improvement out of the run.

$100 Betting Strategy

Home Of The Brave – $65 win
So Si Bon – $20 win
Trope – $15 win
