A bumper 10-race card is scheduled to be held at Ascot on Saturday afternoon and Horsebetting’s WA tipping expert presents his best bets, top odds and free quaddie selections. The track is rated a Good 4, with the rail out 11m the entire circuit, for the meeting kicking off at 12:43pm AWST (3:43pm AEDT).
Ascot’s Best Bet Of The Day – Cheval De Vaga
We were with the Meryl Hayley-trained Cheval De Vaga when he won at the Ascot 1400m on January 1 and anticipate he will be hard to beat over 1500m. The six-year-old son of Lope De Vega made it three wins in succession and looks well placed for his step up to the 1500m for the first time in his career. William Pike takes the reins and from barrier six, we expect to see the wizard settle Cheval De Vaga in the first four either outside the leader or in the one. Considering he comes here fourth-up he should be approaching peak fitness and if races up to the form he has shown so far this campaign, then Cheval De Vaga looks a clear best bet on Saturday’s card.
Next Best Bet – Beads
Steve Wolfe will be hoping his three-year-old son of Star Turn can go one better than his last start second at the Ascot 1000m on January 1. He was sent around as a well backed $1.90 favourite but could not chase the leader down and was seemingly screaming out for further. He gets that here stepping up to 1200m and despite just one minor placing from two starts at the two furlongs, he should take some beating here. Beads draws barrier two and with even luck at a crucial time, Shaun McGruddy should have a lap full of horse on the home turn and when asked for an effort should prove too good for this lot.
Best Value At Ascot – Mombasa
Brian Carey & Joseph Azzopardi are set to combine with Mombasa who is coming off a brief 10-week spell. The four-year-old son of Crowded House had one start for one win during his spring campaign for one win in what was an impressive showing. Considering he has a win to his name when first up already, we know he will handle the occasion and in a race that does not look to be the strongest, he presents great value at a double figure quote. He will look to get back in the running and in the small field of nine, he should not be too far from the speed throughout. With a nice turn of foot, we expect to see Mombasa finish the better once again.
